Growing up in an extended family, I have witnessed firsthand how  close-knit families can cause conflicts. With so many siblings, parents and grandparents   living under the same roof, it is inevitable that misunderstandings arise.

We are a loving family, but we face conflicts from time to time. Sometimes they are caused by the 1________   of some younger members of my family or by their 2_________.   The other time it can be 3__________ (at times our house is overcrowded with people) or 4____________ (we should not underestimate this issue as well).

  Sometimes we unconsciously hurt each other’s feelings.  For example, our granny   sometimes tries to 5____________, not realizing that we are becoming more mature and have to make our own decisions.  So, her distrust hurts us.

 Finally, overcoming all these difficulties together, we have learned how to avoid conflicts and be on good terms with each other. Though, honestly, it was a tough task to do. We worked out three main rules that we have been practicing ever since.

 Besides, to avoid conflict situations, we learned to 6____________ and work together to find solutions that would benefit everyone. 7________, 8_________, and 9___________ for each other are the key values that we held dear.

Group work. Read out the situations, discuss them with your partners and find out what causes the conflict and what can be done to resolve it.

Situation 1. You and your husband have different views on healthy eating.  You like vegetarian dishes and your husband likes to eat meat  dishes.  Every time you start to discuss the dishes to cook, the conservation ends in yelling and both of you storming out of a room.

Situation 2. You have suggested your daughter (aged 16) going  on  a travel on Christmas time for 4 days.  Your daughter doesn’t want to go with you, she claims she is mature enough to spend this time in her native town with friends. It's frustrates you.  It even makes you angry and hurt. The situation is sure to lead to a serious disagreement.

Situation 3.  Your sister and you very often have an argument about whose turn it is to cook dinner. Both of you are not willing so much to do it, and it usually ends up arguing instead of enjoying the evenings together. Sometimes it can even result in a rift.

Homework: Share your opinion on one of the following quotes. Write a paragraph. Support your answer with arguments.
