Task 1. Translate the text.

                  Political System of the United Kingdom of Great Britain

     The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is a constitutional monarchy. This means that Great Britain is governed by the Parliament and the Queen is Head of State.

     The legislative power in the country isw exercised by the Houses of Parliament. The British Parliament consists of two chambers: the House of Lords and the House of Commons. The House of Lords  is composed of hereditary and life peers and peercees. The members of the House of Commons are elected by the people. They are elected from the constituencies in England< Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The House of Commons is the real governing body of the United Kingdom.

     The executive power is exercised by Prime Minister and his Cabinet. The government is sually formed by the political party which is supported by the majority in the House of Commons. Prime Minister is the majority party leader and is appointed by the Queen. Prime Minister chooses a team of ministers; twenty of the ministers are in the Cabinet.

     The second largest party becomes the official opposition with its own leader

and the Shadow Cabinet. The two leading parties in Great Britain are the

Conservative Party (the ories) and the Labour Party.

     The judiciary branch of the government determines common law and is

independent of both the legislative and the executive branches.

     There is no written constitution in Great Britain, only precedents and tadition.

Task 1. Translate the text.

                             Political System of the USA

     The USA is a presidetial Republic.

     The legislative power of the USA is vested in the Congress of the USA. The Congress was created by Article I of the Constitution, adopted in 1787. It consists of two chambers – the Senate and the House of Representatives.

     The Senate is made up of 100 mtmbers (2 from each state), elected for a term of 6 years. One third of the Senate is elected every 2 years. To be elected a Senator, a person must be at least 30 years old and have been the citezen of the USA at least 9 years.

     The House of Representatives comprises representaatives from each state, elected for a two-year term. The number of representatives from eaach state depends on its population, but every state is represented. To be elected a representative, a person must be at least 25 yers of age and have been a citizen of the USA for at least 7 years.

     The presiding officer of the Senate is the vice-president of the USA. The presiding officer of the House of Representatives, the Speaker, is elected by the house. The work of preparing and considering laws is  done by the committees of both Houses. There are 15 standing committees in the Senate and 19 in the House of Representatives.

     The Congress assembles at least once a year.

     The executive branch of thye government consists of the President, the Vice-President and the Cabinet. The president’s term of office is four years, together with the Vice-President, chosen for the same term. The President is the head of the executive branch of the government; he appoints the members of the Cabinet. The Cabinet advises the President on many matters and is composed of the heads of ten executive departments: Secretary of State, Secretary of Treasury, Secretary of Defence and others.

     The judicisl branch of the government is headed by the Supreme court which settles disputes between the staates. The Supreme Court may veto any law passes by the Congress if it contradicts the Constitution of the USA.

      The United States is a federal Union, and the Presedent is the head of the Federal government which deals with the international problems and national matters. But every state has its own constitution and the state government headed by the Governor and managing their local affairs. Their laws and decision must not contadict the Constitutin of the USA.

     The US national flag- Stars and Stripes- is red, white and blue. Thirteen stripes represent the original 13 states of the Us; the 50 stars represent the current number of states.

  4. Высший исполнительный орган состоит из президента, вице-президента и Кабинета.

  6. Кабинет состоит из руководителей 10 исполнительных департаментов и дает рекомендации Президенту.
  7. Верховный суд решает спорные вопросы между штатами и может наложить вето на закон, если он противоречит Конституции.
  8. Правительство штата во главе с губернатором занимается местными вопросами.

                                     Political System of Russia

     Russia is a parliamentary republic. Head of State in this country is the President. The government consists of three branches: legislative, executive and judicial. The president controls each of them.

     The legislative power is exercised by the Federal Assembly. It consists of two chambers: the Council of Federation and the State Duma. Each chamber is headed by the Speaker. A bill may be introduced in any chamber. A bill becomes a law if it is approved by both chambers and signed by the President. The President may veto the bill. He can make international treates. The President may also appoint ministers; the Federal Assembly approves them. The members of the Federal Assembly are elecyed by the people for four years.

     The executive power belongs to the Government, or the Cabinet of Ministers. The government is headed by the Prime Minister.

     The judicial power belongs to the system of courts. It consists of the Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court and other courts.

     The national symbol of Russia is white-blue-and-red banner.

                                                US Government

     By the Constitution of 1787 (and the amendments to it) the government of the USA is composed of three branches: the executive one, the legislative one, and the judicial one.

     The highest executive power in the United States is vested in the President of the United States, who is elected for a term of 4 years by electors of each state. The Presidential election is held every four years in November. The Presedent of the USA must be a native-born citizen, resident in the country for 14 years and at least 35 years old.

     The President is to carry out the programmes of the Government, to recommend much of the legislation to the Congress. He is to appoint Fedral Judges, ambassadors to other contries and heads of various government depsrtments, called secretaries.

     The legeslative power belongs to the Congress of the United States consisting of two chambers: the Senate and the House of Representatives. The Senate is composed of  two members from each state elected for a term of 6 years, one third being elected every two years. The number of representatives from each state to the House of Representatives depends on the number of people in each particular state.

     In order to become a law all bills and resolutions must pass both the Houses and must be signed by thye President.

     The supreme Court is the Highest judicial organ of the United States and the head of the judicial branch of power. The Supreme Court consists of the Chief Justice of the USA and a number of Associate Justices.

      The United States is divided into 11 judicial circuits. There are about 90 district courts in different part of the united States. The district courts are the lowest ones in the Federal court system. Most of the criminal and civil cases are tried by these courts.

     Each state has a constitution similar to the Constitution of the entire nation and all the power in each  state is divided into executive, legislative and judicial. The head of each state is the governor of the state.
