My school and school life

No doubt that school is our second home. We spend a lot of time at school acquiring deep knowledge, which can help us to understand our life better. It plays an important role in our lives. At school we grow, make friends and learn to understand life. School helps to make our characters and views. Whatever school years may be, they remain in our hearts forever.        

My school number is 31. It’s a comprehensive secondary school. It was built about 40 years ago. It is a modern four-storeyed building. The school is named after the great Siberian pilot Martemianov. You can see the memorial devoted to Martemianov in the school garden. There is a big sports ground and a stadium behind the school. Here pupils have classes in physical training.                                                                                                                                            When you enter the school you come into a large hall. Here on the walls there are pupils’ wall papers, different school rules and a timetable. On the ground floor there is also a canteen, a gym and a school library.                                                                                                        

The assembly hall, the teachers’ room and the headmaster’s office are on the first floor. At school there are cosy classrooms for practically all the subjects - English, Russian, History, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Geography, Literature, Arts and Music, boys’ crafts and home economics for girls where they learn to cook, sew and knit. There is a computer class in our school where pupils study computing. Our Physics, Chemistry and Biology labs are well-equipped for the necessary experiments. In the Russian and English classrooms there are TV sets, tape-recorders and DVD players.  All these help pupils to develop speaking, reading and writing skills in English. The Geography and History classrooms have a lot of maps, books and portraits of famous explorers and statesmen.                                                                     On the upper floor you can find classrooms for junior pupils. It’s better not to go there during the break because little children are so noisy. They run along the corridor so fast that they can even hurt themselves.                                                                                                                          

All school celebrations, meetings and dancing parties are held in the Assembly Hall. The most remarkable event of the school life -the Last Bell is also celebrated here. Different traditions are observed in our school. It has become a tradition to mark the Day of Knowledge on the first of September, to receive honorable guests, to hold subbotniks. Very often the school leavers come here to meet their teachers and classmates. Such meetings are very touching and interesting.                                                                                                                                  But it’s not very easy to study. We usually have 6-7 lessons a day and lots of homework. It takes me several hours to do it. Sometimes I have to sit up till night to write a composition, to prepare a report or to learn poem by heart. My favorite subjects are Russian, Literature and English. I’m good at these subjects and usually get good marks in them. I work hard at English lessons: read and translate texts, make up dialogues, discuss something interesting. But I’m poor in sciences. I always fail to learn formulas and terms properly.                                          

I am very thankful to my school. When I was only seven years old, I entered it to get some knowledge and I know many things now thanks to my school and my teachers. The teachers in my school are very kind and clever, they give all their knowledge and all their love to the pupils. I like my class because I always feel at home with my classmates. We often spend our free time together.  I'll never forget my school. It is my childhood and it is the happiest period in my life. My first friends, my first love and my first achievements and disappointments are all connected with my school life.
