Тема:  Лондон и его достопримечательности.

Цель мероприятия:

1. Образовательная: обобщение изученного материала по теме «Лондон»;
2. Развивающая: развитие аудитивных, грамматических и лексических навыков;
3. Воспитательная: развитие интереса учащихся к изучению английского языка.

Оборудование: названия достопримечательностей Лондона, написанные на доске; карточки с названиями достопримечательностей без артиклей, 6 слов на доске для составления предложений, плакаты с изображением известных мест Лондона; карточки со словарными словами.

Ход мероприятия.

1. Hello, boys and girls! I am glad to see you. I hope you are fine. Today you will take part in the quiz  “London and its places of interest”.

I want you to be very active and careful. All of you will be given marks. Are you ready? OK! Let’s begin! You should divide into two teams. Name your teams and choose the leaders.

2. The first task. I’ll describe different places of interest of London. You can see their names on the blackboard. Listen to me very attentively, guess what place of interest I’ve described and raise your hands.

1. There are many old and new beautiful parks in London. This park is the largest one. It is one of the most popular places of Londoners during the summer days. The park is famous for its Speaker’s Corner. (Hyde Park)
2. It is a wonderful building. The Queen Victoria Memorial is situated in front of it. It takes you ten minutes to get from this building to Trafalgar Square. The Queen of Great Britain lives there. (Buckingham Palace)
3. It was a fortress, a palace, a prison and the King’s Zoo. Now it is a museum. You can see a lot of interesting things in the halls of this building. William the Conqueror built it in the eleventh century. Twelve black ravens live in it. People believe that London will be rich while the ravens live there. (the White Tower)
4. It is one of the greatest English churches. It is not far from the Tower of London. The famous English architect Sir Christopher Wren built it in the 17th century after the Great Fire. It is a fine building with many columns and towers. In one of the towers there is one of the largest bells in the world. (St. Paul’s Cathedral)
5. It is more than nine hundred years old. There are many monuments and statues there, many English kings and queens are buried there. It is famous for the Poet’s Corner. It is one of the most famous and beautiful churches in London. (Westminster Abbey)
6. It is a long grey building with towers. The large clock in one of the towers is known as “Big Ben”. You can hear the sound of Big Ben every hour in London. The clock and the bell got their names after Sir Benjamin Hall. The members of the British Parliament work in this building. (the Houses of Parliament)
7. They say it is the most beautiful place in London. In the middle of it a monument of Admiral Nelson is situated. The monument includes four bronze lions. There are two fountains in it. (Trafalgar Square)
8. It is a symbol of London. It stands near the Houses of Parliament. It is a big bell. You hear it every hour. It weights 13,7 kilograms. (Big Ben)            

3. Now each team will have the task on the cards. Use the definite article where it’s necessary. You’ll have 5 minutes. (приложение 1)
4. You should make sentences using these words and write them down. Write down as many sentences on the topic “London” as you can.

5. And now I’ll show you some pictures and you should guess what places of interest are in them. If you know the answer, raise your hands. (используются плакаты с изображением известных достопримечательностей Лондона)
6. The next task is to match the English words with their Russian equivalents. You’ll get cards with two words on each card. One card follows another one. Make the chain of words.(приложение 2)
