The world-known clock. Everyday about 500 tourists come to London to see the Big Ben. Built in 1858, it was named after an architect whose name was Ben (Benjamin). The interesting fact is that you are not allowed to get inside the Big Ben if you aren’t an Englishman. No tourists allowed.
The official name is Palace of Westminster . It includes more than 1,100 rooms, more than a hundred stairs and about 5 kilometers of corridors. the House of Commons and the House of Lords (two traditional chambers) are located here. Nowadays anyone can visit the Houses of Parliament and even attend the session. You have to register by phone and go through special registration procedure
The Tower of London It is one of the most popular of London’s historical sites. It stands on the bank of the River Thames, in the oldest part of the city. The Tower of London was built at the beginning of the 11th century by William the conqueror. The oldest part of the fortress is the White Tower, which was completed in 1097. The height of the tower is 27.4 meters (90ft). Its walls are 4.6 meter wide
Tower Bridge The landmark is located near the Tower of London, which gives it its name. It is a bridge over the River Thames, built and opened in 1894. Tower Bridge consists of two towers which are tied together. Total length of the bridge with is 801 ft (244 m). Height of each tower is 213 ft (65 m). Tower Bridge is considered a must see attraction for visitors of London.
One of London’s most recognizable landmarks which is located in Trafalgar Square. It was built between 1840—1843 to commemorate Admiral Horatio Nelson who died in 1805 at the Battle of Trafalgar. Later, in 1868, the four sitting bronze lions were added to the base of the monument. The column is made of granite. Its weight is around 2,500 tones and its height is over 50 meters. In 2006 it was restored
The National gallery has more than 2000 works of world-known artists of XIII-XX centuries. You can spend the whole day there and it will not be enough. What is interesting, is that the gallery is free for everyone.
Buckingham Palace It is the official residence of the British monarch in London. The Palace is used to receive guests on state, ceremonial and official occasions for the Royal Family. Buckingham Palace was built in 1703 by John Sheffield, first Duke of Buckingham. In 1761 King George III bought the building for his wife, Queen Charlotte. But only in 1837 the Palace became the official London residence of Britain’s monarchy. Besides, in the 19th century Buckingham Palace was greatly expanded. Now there are 775 rooms, 19 staterooms and 78 bathrooms.
The British museum was created in 1753. It contains one of the richest collections of antiquities in the world. There is also one of the largest library in this museum. There is a reading room, but you can’t lend books. There are 11 departments in this museum. They keep a lot of different collections.
St Paul’s Cathedral was built on the highest point of London 300 years ago. It is the London Bishop’s residence and is the most popular place of visit. The price of visit is £16.
Hyde park is a beautiful park in London. It is a royal place. It has 5000 acres of beautiful green space. So that’s why people like to organize picnics here. There are many sights in this park and tourists also like watching them.

London is a big and beautiful city. Before you go there you need to find information about its sights. Because there are lots of interesting and historical places which every tourist must see. At first, you can visit the London Eye. The magnificent view of London will open from the highest point of this place. It is very inspiring and unforgettable. After that tourists usually walk to Trafalgar Square. The most important place of this part of London is Nelson’s Column. People like meeting here and walking with friends. There also a beautiful park in London. It is called Hyde Park. There are many flowers and trees. It is very green and nice. After that, it is possible to visit Buckingham Palace. It is a wonderful building! There are more than 600 rooms. It is a great possibility for tourists because they can watch where and how the royal family live. Tourists also can order the excursion with a guide. There is also an interesting place for shopping. It is in Oxford Street. There are many shops with sales. Another interesting place which you need to visit is the river, Thames. Tourist can rent a boat and walk through the river watching a delightful view. London is a very interesting and cultural city! After visiting all these places you will never forget this trip!
