People have been enjoying the wax sculptures at Madame Tussauds museums for generations. It is a major tourist attraction in London, United Kingdom and a number of other large cities around the world.

The idea for a wax museum came from Marie Tussaud.She was born during the 1760s in Strasbourg, France. She learned how to do wax modeling from her mother's employer. He was a physician named Philippe Curtis. Her first wax sculpture was of Voltaire. Dr. Philippe Curtis passed away during the 1790s. He left Tussaud his large collection of wax models. She spent the following 32 years traveling Europe and putting them on display. Tussaud was married in 1795 to Francois Tussaud . Together they created the traveling show known as Madame Tussaud's . Her collection was on permanent display for the first time on Baker Street in London during1836. One of the museum's most popular attractions at the time was Madame Tussauds Chamber of Horrors. Marie Tussaud passed away in 1850. She left detailed memoirs about the creation of her wax models.

The museum is situated in Marylebone Road, not far from the street which is famous as the home of the first great detective in fiction, Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes.

What Is Inside Madame Tussauds London? Madame Tussauds London museum is all divided into several sections. Each single section is organized in eye catching way. In the first section you will be finding the wax statue of popular celebrities such as Angeline Jolie, Brad Pitt, Nicole Kidman, Morgan Freeman, Johnny Depp , Leonardo di Caprio and so many more. Rest of the sections of the museum are added with directors, athletes, royalty, writers, scientists, painters, musicians, singers, politicians and even serial killers.

The wax figures are standing and sitting, and sometimes even moving and talking. They are extremely realistic and when they look at you, their eyes sparkling, you often feel uncomfortable in their company. Computer controlled figures (they are called audioanimatronics ) are especially popular with the visitors.

New models are being produced all the time while the old ones are quietly removed from display. Over the years hundreds of celebrities have made their way to Madame Tussauds studio. Most people agree to be portrayed, but some refuse. Mother Teresa was one of the few who declined, saying her work was important, not her person.
