• how people can improve their language skills
• what foreign languages you would like to learn and why

A talk about foreign languages.

   Students throughout the world study different foreign languages. Each chooses the language most important for his or her interests and needs. A lot of young people learn foreign languages to communicate with each other, to get a better job, to use the Internet and IT. Knowing a foreign language is useful when you travel and it helps to learn about another culture and people.

   Young people can improve their language skills in different ways. They should listen to songs, watch television and films in their new language. This way they can expand their vocabulary. The fastest way to learn a language is to practise it. Students should speak a foreign language with their friends as often as possible. This will help them to speak more fluently. A good way to have more practice and improve their language is to make friends with a speaker of the language they’re learning and exchange letters or e-mail letters with him or her regularly.

    As for me, I’d like to learn English. I’m quite sure that everyone should know English in the 21st century. English is the most widespread language on earth. At present, 80 per cent of all information in computers is in English, 60 per cent of all international telephone calls are made in English, 60 per cent of the world’s radio stations broadcast in English, and over two-thirds of the world’s scientists write in English. English is also the main language of international conference, airports and air traffic control, medicine, diplomacy, and international competitions. My main reason for studying English is that I want to communicate with my friends from different countries. I also study English because I want to understand films, songs and TV programmes. English is useful when I travel abroad. Knowing English will help me to get a better job in the future.
