План.
1. Оргмомент. Good morning pupils. I`m glad to see you. How are you today?
Today we are going to talk about past events, people in the space and the history of space flight.
2. Введение в тему.
People often think that the age of space exploration began with the first spaceships in the 1950s and 1960s, though in fact, astronomers had been exploring the universe long before the beginning of space flights. Our lesson is devoted to the pioneers of space exploration.
3. Введение лексики по теме.
На доске карточки с лексикой по теме «Космос»: space, space ship, flight, manned flight, astronaut, on the moon, outer space, proud of, healthy, to achieve, achievement, launch.
4. Чтение текста «The Road into Space». Now let`s read the text and learn who were the first people, that saw the outer space.
“The Road into Space”
On April 12, 1961, at 9.07 a. m. Moscow time, the spaceship "Vostok" was launched into space with a man on board and after orbiting our planet successfully returned to the Earth. The first man to visit space was a Soviet man. It was Yuri Gagarin, a remarkable man.
This day will go down in history as a great achievement, opening the space age.
Those were the years of manned space flight programmes— Valentina Nikolayeva Tereshkova, the first woman-cosmonaut, made her flight through space; Alexei Leonov achieved the first "space walk" in 1965; the first Soviet experimental station with four cosmonauts on board went into orbit; the first American expedition landed on the Moon. The flights of the American astronauts to the Moon and the orbiting of the Moon marked the beginning of travels to other planets.
The Soviet "Lunokhod", automatic stations, and other space laboratories, have begun a new period in space exploration. From the first experiments scientists went over to systematic exploration of space. The successes achieved made it possible to raise new important problems, to make new experiments and new discoveries.
A man in space! The news quickly spread all over the world. Yuri Gagarin's flight drew the attention of all people. It showed that Soviet science and technology had reached a very high stage of development. The first manned flight in space was prepared by the programme of space technology development in the Soviet Union.
A great role in carrying out the space programmes was played by the big army of scientists, engineers and workers.
5. Let`s listen to your classmates and see how Russian people explored the space.
Yuri Alexeyevich Gagarin was born into the family of a collective farmer on March 9, 1934 in the Gzhatsk District of the Smolensk Region.
In 1951 he finished vocational school with honours, and at the same time a school for working youth in the town of Lyubertsy, not far from Moscow. He was then sent to an industrial technical school at Saratov on the Volga, where he did successfully too.
His fondness for flying first led him to the Saratov Air Club and later to an Air Force pilots school in Orenburg. When Yuri Gagarin graduated from that school with a first-class diploma, he served as a pilot in the Soviet Air Force.
On April 12, 1961, for the first time in the world's history Yuri Gagarin rose from the ground into space aboard the "Vostok" spaceship with the words "Up we go!" The 108 minutes which it took to fly round our planet were the first minutes of the space age.
"Gagarin Launches the 'Vostok' Spaceship into History", "We Must Take Off Our Hats to the Russians"—such were some of the headlines of articles in the world press on the achievements of the Soviet people.
After his flight Yuri Gagarin visited 30 countries, for everybody wished to see the earth's first cosmonaut.
Yuri Gagarin took an active part in training the other cosmonauts. He spent hours explaining to other cosmonauts things which could help them in space. He graduated with honours from the Zhukovsky Academy of Air Force Engineers in 1968.
Hero of the Soviet Union Yuri Gagarin, famous Pilot-Cosmonaut of the USSR, met with a tragic death on March 27, 1968 during a training flight. The name of Yuri Gagarin has already become a symbol of heroism in the name of science and progress.
People will always keep in their hearts the memory of the man who devoted his life to science, peace and friendship among nations.
Alexey Arkhipovich Leonov is a retired Soviet cosmonaut and Air Force Major General. Leonov was one of the 20 Soviet Air Force pilots selected to be part of the first cosmonaut group in 1960. Like all the Soviet cosmonauts, Leonov was a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. His walk in space was originally to have taken place on the Vostok 11 mission, but this was cancelled, and the historic event happened on the Voskhod 2 flight instead. He was outside the spacecraft for 12 minutes and nine seconds on 18 March 1965, connected to the craft by a 5.35-meter tether. At the end of the spacewalk, Leonov's spacesuit had inflated in the vacuum of space to the point where he could not re-enter the airlock. He opened a valve to allow some of the suit's pressure to bleed off and was barely able to get back inside the capsule. Leonov had spent eighteen months undergoing intensive weightlessness training for the mission.
Leonov's second trip into space was similarly significant: he commanded the Soviet half of the 1975 Apollo-Soyuz mission – Soyuz 19 – the first joint space mission between the Soviet Union and the United States.
But our cosmonauts couldn`t be launched into space if the other outstanding people hadn`t made their researches. Konstantin Eduardovich Tsiolkovsky was one of them.
Konstantin EduardovichTsiolkovsky (1857- 1935) was a rocket scientist and pioneer of the astronautic theory.
He was born in Izhevskoye Ryazan Oblast. Tsiolkovsky spent most of his life in a log house in Kaluga.
Inspired by the fiction of Jules Verne, Tsiolkovsky thought about many aspects of space travel and rocket propulsion. He is the father of spaceflight and the first man to conceive the space elevator.
Nearly deaf, Tsiolkovsky worked as a high school mathematics teacher until retiring in 1920.
However, he never built any practical models, and his interest shifted to more ambitious topics. Tsiolkovsky calculated that the horizontal speed for a minimal orbit around the Earth is 8,000 m/s and that this could be achieved by means of a multistage rocket fueled by liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen.
Among his works are designs for rockets.
6. Our next task is to listen to the text about one more famous cosmonaut, that is Valentina Tereshkova, and to choose what information is true, false, and what is not stated in the text.
Текст для аудирования о Валентине Терешковой
Valentina Tereshkova was honored with the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
Valentina Tereshkova was born on March 6, 1937. Her father was a tractor driver. Valentina's mother worked in a textile plant.
Valentina started school in 1945 when she was eight years old. She left school to begin working in a textile plant in 1953. She was able to continue her education through correspondence courses.
Valentina became interested in parachute jumping when she was young. Her parachute jumping was one of the reasons she was picked for the cosmonaut program.
On June 16, 1963 Valentina Tereshkova was launched into space aboard Vostok 6. She became the first woman to travel in space. Valentina Tereshkova made 48 orbits of Earth. She spent almost three days in space.
In November of 1963, Valentina Tereshkova married Andrian Nikolayev. He was also a cosmonaut. Their daughter, Elena, was born in 1964. Elena was the first child born to a mother and a father who had both travelled to space.
Valentina Tereshkova never made a second trip into space. She became an important member of the Communist Party and a representative of the Soviet government.
