Урок-путешествия «Welcome to ENGLAND!»

Цель: организация иноязычного общения и расширение страноведческого кругозора студентов.
Задачи :

Образовательная:

• активизировать в речи студентов ЛЕ по теме “Travelling”;
• развивать умения в монологической речи, а также устной подготовленной речи;

Развивающая: 

• Развитие памяти и внимания.  
• Развитие навыков аудирования. 

• Развитие навыка поискового чтения.

Воспитательная: 

• Воспитание патриотизма и любви к чужой стране.
• Воспитание уважения к культуре другого народа .
• Формирование культуры речи.

Ход мероприятия

1. Организационный момент и приветствие. 
Teacher: Good afternoon, dear students and teachers! I am glad to see you ! Today we have met here to speak about travelling. We start traveling to England . We will learn a lot of interesting things about London and its history. We will visit the most famous places in London. Today we are going on a journey to England.  I’ll be your guide. During our travelling you will have different tasks. If you will make them successfully, you’ll get the small flag of Great Britain. And in the  End of our travelling we’ll count your flags.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (the UK) occupies most of the territory of the British Isles. It consists of four main parts: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. London is the capital of England, Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland, Cardiff— of Wales and Belfast — of Northern Ireland.

Find the second part-Scotland. The symbol of Scotland is the thistle (чертополох). And look at the flag of Scotland. It’s name is St Andrew's Cross or The Saltire

The third part is Wales. The symbol of this part is narcissus.

 W. Shakespeare had written about this flower in his poem

On the flag of Wales there is the red dragon.

And the Northern Ireland also has its own flower symbol it is shamrock

The flag of the Northern Ireland is Saint Patrick's Saltire.

 And Find the first part –England on your maps. Look, the symbol of England is the red Rose and  the flag of England is «the Union Jack». Flag has 3 crosses.

 Find the flags and the symbols of these 4 parts and glue on the map.

Union Jack is the name of the flag of the United Kingdom. Union Flag, as it is officially called, is a combination of several flags: Scottish, English and Irish. The creation of the flag started when Scotland joined England and Wales. (пояснить появление флага Великобритании).

Who is the leader of the UK?

-Right. The Queen. Do you know her name?

Elizabeth II. Her full name is Elizabeth Alexandra Mary. She was born on April 21, 1926. Elizabeth succeeded to the throne after the death of her father in February in 1952.

And the Hymn of The UK is devoted to the Queen.

-Kids, do you know,  where does the Queen live?

-Right, in the Palace. And The Queen Elisabeth II lives in  the Buckingham Palace. When the Queen is here, the royal standard flutters over the palace.  Buckingham Palace is not only the royal residence: it's a small city under one roof. It has a cinema, a post-office, some caffees and a restaurant, a hospital and even a night club. More than 700 people work here every day.

-Find, the Buckingham Place and glue it on your maps with the Queen together.

-Well. Before we continue our travelling, we have to make a task.

You have to form new words from the «Great Britain». You have only 3 minutes. Let’s start.  (Составляют под музыку слова.)

-Time is over. Let’s check. (Подсчитываем количество слов. Проверяем на правильность. Командам победителям выдается маленький Британский флаг)

  -Excellent! Let’s continue our travelling. (С помощью песенки «the wheels on the bus» «подъезжаем» к Биг Бену)

Big Ben, the big clock tower, is the symbol of London.

In fact, this tower is called Saint Stephens Tower. Actually, Big Ben is the huge bell inside the building. It strikes hours. It’s located near the river Thames. Look at its location and find it on your maps and clue the figure of Big Ben.

The most famous bridge in London is a Tower bridge. Tower Bridge is a bascule-bridge.

The bascules will open to let ships pass through. The Tower Bridge is located in the center of London on the river Thames. Sometimes it is confused with London Bridge, situated some 0.5 mi (0.80 km) upstream. Find the location of this bridge and glue its figure.

- Well done. Let’s go! And our next station is Madame Tussauds Waxmuseum. Madam Tussaud’s is the most amazing wax museums in the world

There are several different halls in the unique museum: “The chamber of horrors”, “Grand Hall”, “The spirit of London”.
The first one is the most thrilling place of the museum where the models of villains and their victims are presented. The second one exhibits diffirent historical, political, military figures. And the last one is dedicated to the history of London. There is also a separate hall for stars’ models.. Find the museum and glue it with wax figure on your maps. There are a lot of famous people in this museum: politician, actors, poets, who make famous the Great Britain.

- You have gotten the mind-map of the UK, especially England. Now your team get the task: You have to tell us about the United Kingdom, using your map. You can get from 1 to 5 flags for your answer.

-Let’s summarize our travelling. Count, please, your flags.
