Тема урока: Экологические проблемы. The Truth about Water.

Цель урока:

  - совершенствовать умения и навыки  практического владения английским языком в рамках изученной лексики и грамматики; совершенствовать навыки аудирования и понимания незнакомого текста.

 Задачи урока:

 практическая – способствовать формированию коммуникативной компетенции во всех её составляющих (языковой, речевой, социокультурной, учебно-познавательной);
образовательная

-активизировать и систематизировать лексический материал по теме «Ecological Problems»;

-ознакомить учащихся с предлагаемыми в ходе урока методами сохранения чистоты окружающей среды:

- активизировать  навыки чтения и аудирования  с извлечением нужной информации;

развивающая:

 -развитие  внимания, критического мышления, языковой догадки;

- развитие способностей учащихся к анализу получаемой информации,

  умения делать выводы и обобщения на основе просмотренного  

   видеофильма и прочитанного незнакомого текста;

 - дальнейшее развитие навыков аргументации на иностранном языке;

 - развитие кругозора учащихся;

воспитательная:

-формировать потребность использования языка в различных сферах профессиональной деятельности;

-формировать познавательную активность;

     -воспитывать толерантное отношение к мнению других;

-создать условия для развития и углубления интересов студентов в выбранной ими области знания, в частности как средство получения профессионально-значимой информации.

-воспитывать бережное отношение к окружающему миру, чувство собственной ответственности  к сохранению природных ресурсов.

-Hello, dear boys and girls! I am happy to see you again!

Today we’ll continue speaking about ecological problems. The first thing we will do   is to review lexis.

Say in English, please.

 Загрязнять, ядовитый, отходы, сбрасывать отходы, мусор,  канализация, сбрасывать отходы, вырубать деревья, нехватка.

Now we will do listening but not in a usual way. First, you have to look at the words on the screen, choose one word and memorize it. You will have to stand up. I will read you the text, you have to listen very attentively and when you hear the word you have chosen, you must sit down. I’ll stop reading when the last pupil sits down.

“Our environment is constantly changing. No one   deny that. However, as our environment changes, so does the need to become increasingly aware of the problems that surround it. With a massive influx of natural disasters, warming and cooling periods, different types of weather patterns and much more, people need to be aware of what types of environmental problems our planet is facing.

Global warming has become an undisputed fact about our current livelihoods; our planet is warming up and we are definitely part of the problem. However, this isn’t the only environmental problem that we should be concerned about. All across the world, people are facing a wealth of new and challenging environmental problems every day. Some of them are small and only affect a few ecosystems, but others are dramatically changing the landscape of what we already know”.

World Water Day

Humanity needs water, and every drop is precious. On March 22nd, World Water Day is a day to celebrate water and make a difference for people who do not have the water they need.

We all need water

Did you know that in the UK every person uses about 150 litres of water every day and most of the water we use is to flush the toilet? Let’s take a minute to think about the water we use. The human body is 60% water and we need to drink lots of water to be healthy. When we are thirsty we just go to the kitchen and fill a glass with clean water. We also need water for cooking. Imagine trying to cook pasta or rice without water! We have toilets in our houses and when we want to brush our teeth or have a shower, we use the bathroom. We use water indirectly too. Farmers, who produce the food we eat, use water to make the plants grow. When we turn on a light or switch on a TV or a computer we use energy and we need water to produce this energy.

The truth about water

The truth is that we are lucky enough to have clean water whenever we want, but this is not the case for many people around the world. Did you know that around 750 million people do not have clean water to drink? That’s around 1 in 10 people in the world. And did you know that 2.5 billion people do not have clean toilets? That’s about 1 in 3 people in the world.

But what does this mean?

If we drink dirty water or we can’t wash our hands we can catch diseases from the bacteria and become ill. Every year over 500,000 children die from diarrhea from dirty water. That’s around 1,400 children every day! In Ghana, 80% of all diseases are from dirty water,  in Nicaragua, 80% of people don’t have clean drinking water. Also, in some countries children walk many kilometers every day to get water and sometimes the water isn’t even clean! If children walk many hours a day to get water, they can’t go to school so they don’t learn how to read or write and don’t get an education.

Water for everyone

In 1993 the United Nations decided that March 22nd is the World Day for Water. On this day every year, countries around the world hold events to educate people about the problems of dirty water and that clean water is something that everyone should have around the world. People organize events to raise money and this money helps countries like Nigeria or Nicaragua get clean water to its people so that children don’t die from diarrhea and so that they can go to school.

For World Water Day, some people in the UK walk, run or cycle 10km, others climb mountains or even jump from an airplane and skydive to the ground. At one school children between the ages of 10 and 15 walk 6km with 6 liters of water so they can see how it feels to walk a long distance carrying heavy bottles of water. People give them money to do these things and all the money helps get clean water to as many people as possible around the world.

We can live without electricity but we cannot survive without water. I think we can try living one day without water. This experiment can make us know how important  water is.
