Урок в 11 классе                                     The Gerund  

 Цель урока: достижение еще более свободного использования герундия и герундиальных оборотов в речи учащихся

  1. Teacher: Good morning students.

                 Nice to see you.

                 How are you?

                 Who’s on duty today?

  1. Pupil on duty: today is the …. of November. November is usually rather cold and windy in our city. Today the weather is not so bad but it is raining. I’ve been caught in a shower on my way to school. Though I hate being caught in a shower I don’t feel myself disappointed at all. I even enjoy walking in the rain. To my way of thinking weather can’t be bad any way. The t is  … degrees above zero and I feel like walking now but not having a lesson. I think of going out as soon as possible. So I like this weather because it’s not drizzling or hailing, sleeting or blowing. Now it is morning. It’s 5 minutes past nine. It’s an English lesson. N. is absent. She is ill.

 We had to learn  the verbs and phrases at page 119- English for teenagers, and do exercises 9,10 p.121

  1. Teacher: well, students, let’s remember the verbs and verbal phrases after which the Gerund is used.

Only the Gerund is used:

  1. Now, students, what about your home exercises? (English for teenages, p.121 ex.9,10)
  2. Well, students, I think you have revised the rules concerning the Gerund and I’d like you to use it in practice.  I’m going to give you the dialogues, which are not complete. Complete them using the Gerund and act them out. Choose a photo from the blackboard to match your dialogue. You have 5 minutes to prepare.

  1. And let’s get acquainted with the text “Hobbies” (копии прилагаются).first of all have a look at the words and expressions on the backpage  you’ll come across in the text.
  • Students Listen to the recording of the words and repeat them. Then they read the words in turn
  • Then they listen to the recording of the text.
  • Then the answer the questions below, using the expressions from the text and trying to use the GERUND
  1. WELL, Students, please write down the homework:
  • Make up your own dialogue using the text and the Gerund
  • Speak during 5 minutes and reply each 10 times at least
  • Use the proverbs below by all means:
  •  a good  beginning makes a good ending
  • You cannot make an omlette  without breaking eggs
  • Seeing is believing
