The Tower of London is the fortress which was founded on the north bank of the river Thames. It’s one of the oldest historical buildings of Great Britain which had been a residence for English monarchs.

Keepers of the royal treasure house guard famous jewellery of British empire. For visitors the treasure house is open since the 17 th century. Among precious jewels decorating the crowns and scepters, which are still used by the members of the royal family during solemn ceremonies, you may see the largest cut brilliant in the world, Kullinan I.

The Tower Ravens The ravens which live in the Tower of London. To become the guard pf the Tower of London, you need to serve in the armed forces for 22 years , get a medal for the long service and have an immaculate character. Now there live 35 guards of the Tower of London . Beefeaters started to work as a king Genrich’s VIII guards in 1485 , and you can see the ghosts in their red blue or golden uniforms.

Legends of the Tower of London The appearances of ghosts in the Tower of London began in the 18 th century and many of these ghosts are members of the royal family. Guards of the Tower and its visitors see, feel or hear the ghosts of princes, kings’ wives, dutchesses, children and many others. This fortress played important roles for Britain – it was a royal palace, a prison , a place of executions , the coin yard and even a zoo. It is said to be the most visited place by ghosts

Anna Bolein was the second of 6 wives of Genrich VIII. They married in 1523. Genrich VIII laid a plot against his wife and accused her of treachery . She was found guilty and executed in The Tower of London in 1536.She is one of the most persistent ghosts seen there according to literature. The headless figure of Anna Bolein sometimes appears moving by the wind from the Royal House in the Tower walls through the St. Peter’s chapel.

One more famous ghost is the explorer-sailor Walter Rally who was twice imprisoned and the last time was ended up with public execution.

The Tower of London now Today the Tower of London is the one of the main sights of the city . The symbol of the terrifying past of the Tower is the place where earlier was a scaffold of the Tower hill. Now there is a memorial tablet in memory of « the tragic fate of those who for the faith sake and ideals ventured their lives and accepted death . The main Tower buildings are museum and Armory Museum where the treasures of British crown are kept. In the Tower of London there are also a lot of private apartments , where live stuff and distinguished guests .
