“When Christmas comes…”

Characters:

А boy-  Artyom

A Rabbit  -Vlad? (Danil)

A King -  Nikita

А Chancellor-Yura

А Mother–Alice

Choir- Tanya, Natasha, Katya, Ksyusha, Masha

A  boy  is sitting in an armchair and reading a book of fairy-tales (slide “Boy’s room”).

His mother calls him.

Mother: Stop reading books, dear, Christmas is coming. Help me to lay the table, please.

Boy: Just a moment, Mum. It’s my favourite tale. I wish I were there in the fairy-tale.

Music. Lights go down.

A group of girls (choir) is singing Christmas carol “Holy night”.

Silent night,
Holy night,
All is calm,
All is bright.
Round yon virgin mother and child,
Holy infant so tender and mild.
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace.
In the forest (slide “Winter Forest”).

Boy  is looking around  with great interest.

Boy : Where am I? I can’t believe my eyes. Is it a fairy-tale? Oh, it’s cold here. Where will I go?

A white rabbit appears on the stage. He is in a hurry. He is looking at his watch and taking it in and out of his waistcoat.

Rabbit: Oh, dear, oh dear! I’ll be too late!

Boy: What? A rabbit with a pocket and a watch in it? Of course, I’m in a tale. Who’s ever seen a rabbit with a watch?

 Boy: Mister Rabbit, wait for me, please!

Music «When Christmas is near» or «Christmas tree».

Lights go down.

King`s palace (slide “Palace”).

The King  is sitting at the desk. There is a blackboard near the desk. Rabbit comes through the gates and runs into the palace. The Boy enters and hides nearby.

Rabbit: Good evening, Your Majesty! I am on time (bows). Let’s start our lesson. May I ask you to write down four irregular verbs?

King: All right. Dictate!

Rabbit:

Break-broke-broken
Speak-spoke-spoken
Begin-began-begun

Chancellor comes.

Chancellor: Good evening, Your Majesty! May I ask you to put Your signature? To four edicts only.

King: Write! Well! But then I won’t write – begin-began-begun. Give me your papers!

Chancellor: Thank you very much, Your Majesty!

King: And what will I write?

Chancellor: Either “execute” or “forgiveness”.

King (counts): E-xe-cu-te, for-gi-ve-ness. I will write “execute” – it is shorter.

Boy (comes out): Stop it! What have you written?

King: Who are you? How dare you speak to me like this? I am your King.

Boy: You executed a person and didn’t think about him!

King:  I can’t write and think at the same time!

Boy: It isn’t necessary. First you should think and then you should write.

King: If I do that, I will think and think and think and then I’ll go mad.

Boy: Nonsense! And besides, you are not my King. I am not from here. I am from Russia.

King: Russia? Where is it? Oh, I know, your people live on the other side of the Earth and they walk with their heads downward.

Boy: Do you study at school? You don’t know Geography at all (slide “The map of Russia”). Russia is the largest country in the world with a long and interesting history and culture. Do you know how Russian people celebrate Christmas traditionally?It teaches us to be kind and helpful. And do you know something about your Christmas traditions,Your Majesty?

King:Why should I know it? Mr. Rabbit knows it well.

Rabbit:(slides “Christmas traditions”) Christmas is the time for presents, Christmas tree, lights and toys, special food, cards and parties! On Christmas Day all the family is together. In the morning children find a lot of presents in their stockings. Then the family has Christmas dinner. There is always a turkey and Christmas pudding on the table. There is a Christmas tree in every house and the family decorates it together.  In the evening they drink hot chocolate by the Christmas tree and talk about Christmas miracles.  All people are opening presents and having a wonderful time. Don’t forget,Your Majesty,its Christmas EVE today!

King:Will Santa Claus bring us presents?

Boy:Only if they are good little children.Christmas is the time for love and forgiving.And you want to execute a man in such day!It isn't too late!

King:Chancellor!

Chancellor comes.

King: Set my seal and proclaim my order! I want to forgive!

Boy: That’s a wise decision! It will be great!I’m sure you may leave your stocking out for Santa to fill with presents.

King: Thanks a lot.  I know Christmas is a magic time, it’s the time for love, friendship and forgiving.

All the characters come on the stage.

All together: We just want to say to you -  Merry Christmas! 

All together sing the song «We wish you a Merry Christmas!»  (slide “Merry Christmas, everyone! We hope you have a lot of fun!”)
