What’s wrong with us?                                                                                      

Цель урока: развитие функциональной компетенции учащихся по теме «Экология»

                                                        Задачи:

1. Автоматизация ранее усвоенных речевых образцов по теме экология и  грамматических форм по теме  Conditional I and II;

 2. Умение выразить свое отношение к событиям и фактам;

 3. Работа в группах;

 4. Привитие обучающимся чувство любви и бережного отношения к окружающей  среде, чувство ответственности за место, где они живут, воспитание у обучающихся активной жизненной позиции. Развитие у детей познавательной активности на уроке.

 5. Обучение детей самостоятельно решать проблемы на базе изученной лексики по теме.

         Оснащение урока: учебник, рабочая тетрадь, компьютер, проектор, 2 CD - диска, яркий красочный плакат с названием темы, разного рода наглядность (рисунки, карточки с лексикой, живое дерево), конверты с заданиями, тестовые задания, мел, магниты.

 Ход урока:

 I. Today we shall speak about ecology and the environment. We are concerned about our   ecology today. We are concerned about protecting the environment from pollution, destruction of natural recourses, littering.

 So the theme of our lesson is “What’s wrong with us?” (яркий красочный плакат)

- Tell me, please: Who or what must we protect our planet from?

- We must protect from...

- Look at the blackboard, please. The most serious environmental problems now are:

- Littering

- Air pollution, smog

- Water pollution

- Endangered species, animals which are almost extinct

- Destruction of natural resources

- Noise pollution

Look at this beautiful tree. These words and expressions will help you during this lesson. Let’s real and translate them (protect from, to pollute/ pollution, human beings, chemical waste, environment wild life, an international disaster, to solve a problem, litter)

And now translate some sentences from Russian into English:

Тысячи лет назад Земля кормила и поддерживала нас.

(For thousands of years the Earth has fed and given support to us)

Но человек уничтожает свою планету.

(But human beings are killing our planet)

Люди строят электростанции и города, вырубают леса и убивают животных.

(People build power stations and towns, cut down trees and kill animals)

Наши реки, земля и воздух отравлены химическими отходами.

(Our rivers, land and air are polluted by chemical waste)

Загрязнение окружающей среды опасно для людей и дикой природы.

(The pollution of the environment is dangerous for people and wild life)

Это международная катастрофа.

(It is an international disaster)

Давайте решать проблемы вместе.

(Let’s solve these problems together)

 II. Role – playing:

T – People are in danger, aren’t they?

P1 – Yes, they are.

T – Are the rivers polluted?

P2 – Yes, they are.

T- What is the air polluted by?

P3 - The air is polluted by power stations, factories, cars.

T- Why have many species of birds and animals disappeared?

P4 - Million of animals die every year because man has polluted their natural homes. Besides, every year people cut down more trees, build more roads, and use more land for farming.

T- Why are forests disappearing all over the world?

P5 - People cut the trees down because they need wood and paper or new places for farms and houses. Even if new trees are planted, it takes many years for them to grow.

                              And now make up your own dialogue.

 III. And now look at the blackboard, please. There are four pictures. Think of capitals for these pictures.

1. Air pollution. (Air is polluted by power stations and factories) If I were a director of a factory, I wouldn’t pollute a country air)

2. Destruction of natural recourses. (If we didn't cut down forests, the air would be clean and fresh; we would save wild animals)

3.Water pollution. (Rivers are empty of fish) If we didn't pollute out rivers and lakes, they would be full of fish)

4. Littering. (If we were clever and careful, we wouldn't live among litter and waste)

And what would you do if you were the President of our country?                                                        I would spend more money on scientific research if I were The President of our country.

IV. And now we shall listen to the poem written by British girl Mirriam Mackley (ex.50 p.53)

 The  epigraph is taken from this poem. Let’s listen to it.                                                                And now tell me, please: What is the main problem, theme, idea of this poem?

Monologue 1. I agree with the girl. If we try to live in a way that will save the world rather than destroy it, we won’t be alone. Our example will encourage our friends and family to do the same. Then they will tell their friends and families about helping to care for the environment.

 Monologue 2. I agree with the girl. I think there are a lot of ways we can help to save the Earth: before you throw anything away, stop and think. Might someone else have a use for it?  Never drop litter.                                                                                                                                                           Monologue 3. I don’t agree with the girl. The problem of the environment is much spoken about TV, radio and in the newspapers. But my friends and I don’t really talk about it. I know Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth. There are special magazines about nature. But my favorite magazine is The Sport News. I’m in the school football team. We play football twice a week. I’m going to be a football star.

                                                     The poem

Our planet needs in friends                                                                                                                                     But human pollutes fields and nature                                                                                                       And the seas and animals.                                                                                                                       Factories produce production                                                                                                                   And they started air pollution                                                                                                        People listen to me!                                                                                                                             Don’t litter!!!

V. Work in groups.                                                                                                                                       T - Do you know organizations which take part in the environmental protection?                                  

 P1- Yes, we do. They are Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, Mordovian Greenpeace, Travels for Peace and Nature.

I’m going to divide you into three groups.        

You will be the first group                                                                                                               You will be the second group                                                                                                                                   You will be the third group                                                                                                                                                    

The purpose of your groups is: in my hand there are three envelopes. There are a lot of words and expressions which take part in the environmental protection (Friends of the Earth, Mordovian Greenpeace, Travels for Peace and Nature)

I’ll give 3-4 minutes.

And now tell me, please: How do you take part in order to protect the environment?

- We have a “clean up” day outside in our school.

- Litter is a big problem in our town. So our school and we organize a “clean up” day to clear all the litter outside the school and in the local part. We plant a lot of trees and flowers.

I. Not many years ago appeared a new profession – an ecologist. Open your work books at page 25 exercise 5 and let’s read about this profession.

1. Reading

Questions:   - What is the aim of this profession?

 - To protect our planet.

 - What should we do in order to be an ecologist?

 - We would work hard and we should love nature.

 - Do you want to be an ecologist?

 - Yes, I do. When I was a little girl I felt already that nature was the place where I was feeling    most natural.

 VII. And let's listen to the song! I’d like to teach the world to sing. Listen and relax, listen and sing this song.

 VIII. What can we do to save the Earth?

                                                                                                                                                  When air, land or water becomes dirty, we say it is polluted. We know that polluted air, land or water are harmful to people, plants and animals. We are care takers of the Earth. And now we know how to keep our earth clean, but it doesn’t depend on us.

Unfortunately, later our technical civilization thinking only of material good succeeded in destroying nature and creating the ecological crisis on our planet. And it is your challenge, young people, to restore an ecological balance on our planet and to leave it clean and healthy for future generations.
