Detective fiction is the most popular form of both mystery fiction and hardboiled crime fiction. Novels with plots that involve conspiracy theories. These type of books are often called paranoid thrillers. Historical Fiction Philosophical fiction Literary fiction (provokes discussion) presents a story set in the past, often during a significant time period. Historical fiction may include fictional characters, well-known historical figures or a mixture of the two. Authors of historical fiction usually pay close attention to the details of their stories (settings, clothing, dialogue). Gothic fiction 11. Suspense, suspense, suspense! Candles mysteriously blown out, windows mysteriously broken, instruments that seem to play by themselves, animals that react hysterically for apparently no reason. Circumstances become grimmer, more dangerous, more hostile as the story develops. 1. A secret, which involves madness, murder or another horrific crime and great riches 2. A young, innocent yet plucky ( смелый ) protagonist, often a female, who is in great danger 3. The protagonist's love interest with a dark secret. 4. A castle, manorhouse or other large, old residence in an isolated location with a dark history. 5. Servants or villagers who know more than they let on about the recent history of the house and its residents. 6. Bad weather, which serves to further isolate the house and prevent people from coming to the assistance of the occupants of the house. When people do arrive, it is often in the middle of a terrible storm, which forces them to stay. 7. Rumors or stories of a ghost or other supernatural visitor, who may or may not appear . 8. An older person who has either invited the protagonist for a visit or offers her shelter. This person may have dark secrets. 9. Dungeons, hidden passageways and secret rooms. 10. Violence of some sort, often related to the history of the house.

It often revolves around a character who is brought to personal ruin and destruction, often through his or her own actions or failings. Other examples of social problems are poverty, conditions in factories and mines, the plight of child labor, violence against women, rising criminality, and epidemics because of over-crowding, and poor sanitation in cities. Thriller Psychological thriller Horror Magical Realism One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez is a genre where magical or unreal elements play a natural part in an otherwise realistic environment. For example, a character in the story continues to be alive beyond the normal length of life. On the surface the story has no clear magical attributes and everything is conveyed in a real setting, but such a character breaks the rules of our real world. is a genre which is intended to, or have the capacity to frighten, scare, or startle their readers by inducing feelings of horror and terror. Quest Novel of manners Romance A quest is what happens when a character (or characters) travel to a far off destination with the sole purpose of achieving some goal. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway Wizard’s First Rule by Terry Goodkind Eragon by Christopher Paolini The novel of manners is a a sub-genre of the realist novel that deals with aspects of behavior , language , customs and values characteristic of a particular class of people in a specific historical context . Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen This genre of fiction involves love and lust ( вожделение ) . Novels in this genre place their primary focus on the relationship and romantic love between two people, and must have an "emotionally satisfying and optimistic ending.“ A romance novel can exist within one of many subgenres, including contemporary, historical, science fiction and paranormal.
