Внеклассное занятие посвящено знакомству учащихся со страной изучаемого языка, расширяет социокультурные и лингвострановедческие знаний о Канаде; формирует речевые навыки, обеспечивающие познавательно-коммуникативные потребности учащихся. Вначале сообщаутся интересные факты о стране. Информация иллюстрируется презентацией. Затем проводится игра-quiz, позволяющая закрепить полученные знания.

Ознакомление со страной изучаемого языка
Задачи занятия:
Образовательные:
- расширение социокультурных и лингвострановедческих знаний о Канаде;
- формирование речевых навыков, обеспечивающих познавательно-коммуникативные потребности учащихся;
Развивающие:
- развитие лингвострановедческой компетенции учащихся;
- развитие умений анализировать и сравнивать сведения и факты родной и иноязычной культуры;
- развитие языковых способностей и устойчивого интереса к изучению английского языка;
- развитие практических умений работе в группе.
Воспитательные:
- способствовать воспитанию сотрудничества при коллективной работе;
- способствовать воспитанию у детей понимания и уважения к другой культуре;
- способствовать обогащению внутреннего мира учащихся.
Необходимое оборудование и материалы для занятия – операционная среда – Microsoft Windows XP, проектор.
Ход занятия.
I. Organizational and psychological stage:
- Good morning, dear friends! I’m glad to see you. Welcome to English meeting! How are you today?
- Fine, thanks.
- Sit down, please. I’m fine too. Let’s begin our travelling to one of the most wonderful and interesting country in the world- to Canada.
- I’d like to pay your attention on the screen and to listen to your classmates very attentively. After their reports we’ll do the quiz.
- And now your friends would like to tell you some interesting facts about Canada.
II. The introduction of the material.
Pupil 1(slides 1-5).
Canada is the second largest country in the world. Only Russia has a greater land area. Canada is situated on the north of Northern America, washed by the Atlantic Ocean in the east, the Pacific Ocean in the west, and the Atlantic Ocean in the North and in the north-east by the Baffin Bay and the Davis Strait. The country is so wide that 6 distinct time zones lie within its borders.
The National Flag of Canada is known as the Maple Leaf. It is red flag with a white square in its centre and 11-pointed, red maple leaf. Its currency is the Canadian dollar.
Pupil 2 (slide 6).
The southern areas are populated as it is moderate climate there.
The north is characterized by very long, cold winters and cool summer months.
The most humid areas are in the west, where winds from the Pacific Ocean bring a lot of rain.
Pupil 3(slides 7-12).
The population of Canada is over 30 million, about 80% of which live in the south.
About three quarters of population live in towns and cities.
Canada’s largest metropolitan areas are: Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Ottawa.
The French were the first to settle in the country in early 18th century. People of British origin came to stay there after 1763.
Pupil 4 (slide 13).
It is a federation of 10 provinces and 3 territories. Every province and every territory has its own capital city. French Canadians are mostly concentrated in the province of Quebec. They have kept not only their
language, but also their own culture.
Quebec is Canada’s largest province. Population: 7,700,000 people. The capital is Quebec City. But Montreal is the largest city of the province (slide № 18).
Pupil 5(slides 14,15,16).
Canada is rich in gas, oil, coal, gold, copper, iron ore, nickel, zinc.
Forests cover about half of Canada. They are the basis for such important industries such as lumbering and paper production. Forests also give home
to deer and caribou, squirrels, minks, skunks, mooses, beavers, black bears and other animals.
Pupil 6(slides 17-20).
Canada is a constitutional monarchy. Elizabeth II, Queen of England,
is also Canada’s Queen and sovereign of a number of realms.
The Queen is the head of state, and is represented in Canada by the governor-general.
Legislative power is vested in Parliament, which includes the Queen, the Senate and the House of Commons.

Each of the provinces and territories administers its own educational system. Schools are operated by local education authorities.
Pupil 9(slides 22-24).
Quebec's National Holiday is celebrated on the 24th of June. Another name of this holiday is the day of French-Canadian culture.
Canada Day is celebrated on the 1st of July. The day is marked throughout Canada by parades, fireworks, and the display of flags.
Pupil 10 (slides 26-28)
Justin Drew Bieber is one of the most famous and favorite musician of Canada. Bieber's current manager, Scooter Braun first discovered him through his YouTube videos in 2007. Braun was impressed with the videos, and contacted Bieber's mother Pattie about wanting to work with him.
Rae Dawn Chong is a Canadian-American actress. She is best known for her roles in the films Quest for Fire, The Color Purple, Commando, and Time Runner..
Brendan James Fraser is one of the most famous American-Canadian actor in our country. We know and love him thanks for his roles in such films as Mummy , George of the Jungle , Journey to the Center of the Earth.
Pupil 11(slides 29-31)
Toronto’s CN Tower was the tallest free-standing structure on earth in the period from 1976 to 2007. The mind-blowing 553 metres tall tower is the signature of the Toronto skyline and a huge tourist draw as well. Visitors can climb as high as 447 metres in the ‘Sky Pod’ and on a clear day, visibility can be as far-reaching as 120 kilometres.
Notre-Dame Basilica is a basilica in the historic district of Old Montreal, in Montreal. The church's Gothic Revival architecture is among the most dramatic in the world; its interior is grand and colourful, its ceiling is coloured deep blue and decorated with golden stars. Unusual for a church, the stained glass windows along the walls of the sanctuary do not depict biblical scenes, but rather scenes from the religious history of Montreal.
Banff National Park is Canada's oldest national park, established in 1885 in the Rocky Mountains. The park, located in the province of Alberta, encompasses 6,641 km2 of mountainous terrain, with numerous glaciers and ice fields, dense coniferous forest, and alpine landscapes. The Icefields Parkway extends from Lake Louise, connecting to Jasper National Park in the north. Provincial forests and Yoho National Park are neighbours to the west, while Kootenay National Park is located to the south and Kananaskis Country to the southeast. The main commercial centre of the park is the town of Banff, in the Bow River valley.
