Here there are some tasks that you, dear students, can do during your summer holidays and show your English teacher in September. Have good holidays.

Task1. Match these English proverbs with their Russian equivalents. For example: А1.

1. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
2. Actions speak louder than words.
3. A drowning will catch at a draw.
4. A friend in need is a friend indeed.
5. A light purse is a heavy curse.
6. All is well that ends well.
7. All is not gold, that glitters.
8. Among the blind the one eyed man is a king.
9. An hour in the morning is worth two in the evening.

1.Утопающий хватается за соломинку.

2. Синица в руках лучше журавля в небе.

3. Друзья познаются в беде.

4. Не все то золото, что блестит.

How many words?

How many words can you make from this square?

    You must not use any of letters more than once in the same word. Each word must have three or more letters in it. Try to find one word with all nine letters in it.  Names of people or places are not allowed.

    At the end of ten minutes, check your words with the dictionary. Make sure you have spelt them all correctly!

                                                                                                         30 words: Good

                                                                                                         40 words: Very good

The Cat, the Mouse and the Piece of Cheese

   Mr. Smith had been to the shops and bought a cat, a mouse and a large piece of cheese. Then he had to cross the road to his car. He could only carry one of the things he had bought at a time. He couldn’t leave the cat alone with the mouse, because it would eat it. And he couldn’t leave the mouse alone with the cheese, because it would eat the cheese.

If you put these sentences in the right order you will see what he did.

He came back with nothing in his hands.

He took the cat across and left it with the cheese.

He took the mouse across and put the cat, mouse and in the car.

He returned empty-handed again.

He brought the mouse back.

He took the mouse across.

He took the cheese across.
