Данное методическое пособие разработано в рамках программы «Домашнее чтение», предназначенной для учащихся 3-х классов школ с преподаванием ряда предметов на английском языке. Цикл занятий основан на книге для домашнего чтения "Marcel and the White Star" издательства Pearson. Он рассчитан на 8 занятий и предполагает как классную, так и домашнюю работу. Форма, в которой представлены задания (кроссворды, головоломки, игровые ситуации), учитывает возрастные особенности учащихся и их интерес к подобному виду деятельности, и таким образом повышает их мотивацию к обучению.

Курс включает в себя задания различных типов: word search, gap filling, matching, multiple choice, ответы на вопросы, составление плана прочитанного, пересказ и т. п. Цель уроков – развитие различных навыков чтения, в том числе чтение с общим понимание прочитанного, чтение с выделением главной мысли, чтение с поиском необходимой информации и чтение с полным пониманием прочитанного. Таким образом, программа «Домашнее чтение» не только закрепляет речевые и языковые навыки, имеющиеся у учащихся, но и служит начальным этапом подготовки к разделу «Чтение» Государственного итогового экзамена.
