ПОЯСНИТЕЛЬНАЯ ЗАПИСКА

        Данные  материалы предназначены для проведения  зачетной работы по английскому языку во 2 семестре для студентов 1 курса по специальности 060501.01  «Младшая медицинская сестра по уходу за больными». Время проведение зачетной работы – 45 минут. Материалы зачетной работы  составлены в 3 вариантах на аутентичном материале и предназначены для проверки знаний и умений студентов работать с текстом, извлекать материал из текста, уметь использовать правила времен группы Simple, Progressive, Perfect. Зачетная работа составлена по лексико-грамматическому материалу по пройденным темам.

В данных  материалах подобраны задания на умение извлекать материал из  контекста, а также представлен в форме теста грамматический материал на употребление видовременных форм. Материалы снабжены ключами с ответами для быстрой проверки заданий и критериями оценки. Список используемой литературы прилагается.

A.  If you are tired as a dog and yet can’t manage all the things you have to do, just forget about them. The stars advice you to relax and feel happy. Work on the positive attitude toward people and events. Meet the coming week fresh and joyous, and you’ll be surprised at the ease with which you’ll be able to solve all your problems.

B.  Today we watch “The Garage” as a nice comedy, but when it appeared on TV screens it produced the effect of an exploded bomb. It was very bold for that time to show the intrigues, selfishness and stereotypes which took place in the Soviet society.

C.  Today the President of the Russian Federation signed a new law, banning smoking in public places such as schools, universities, hospitals and streets. He says he is not afraid of losing the support of smokers and their voices. “Our aim is to protect the health of the young, the health of the nation, and we shall do whatever is needed,” – he says in his address to the State Duma.

D.  A new medicine was presented today in the New York Dental Care Centre. It is good news for everyone who at least once had to go to the dentist. The new Care Dent is a great step  forward in dental care. It protects teeth and gums, and helps restore the ruined teeth! It is reported that the medicine is created on the basis of space technologies and will cost less than a visit to the dentist.

E.  Mrs Amanda Dubois, a famous benefactress, gave our town a sum of money enough to build a municipal kindergarten. It will be erected in the poorer part of the town and named after Mother Theresa, according to the wish of the donatress.

F.  In the coming summer enjoy yourself in Venice, wonderful and charming city. The city ofters gondola tours around the historical heart, traditional cuisine and souvenirs. It is hot in Italy at this time of the year, and it is hot to discover new things!

G.  This new book by the sciene fiction star is very much like – and at the same time totally unlike – his previous works. You are sure to enjoy his clear, distinct language, which is characteristic of no one else. But the thing is – for the first time he describes the future without wars, lasers and mobile infantry. The future looks so peaceful…But only at the first glance.

1. Another generation of computer fans has arrived. They are neither spotty schoolchildren nor intellectual professors, but pensioners who are learning computing with much enthusiasm. It is particularly interesting for people suffering from arthritis as computers offer a way of writing nice clear letters. Pensioners have now discovered the Internet and at the moment they are the fastest growing user group.
2. Substantial remains of an octagonal Roman bath house, probably reused as a Christian baptistery, have been uncovered during a student training excavation near Faversham in Kent. The central cold plunge pool was five metres across, and stood within a structure which also had underfloor heating and hot pools, probably originally under a domed roof.

4. Potholing is a dull name for a most interesting and adventurous sport. You mustn’t forget, though, that in can be quite dangerous. Without the proper equipment you can fall, get injured or lost.
5. Not many people know that, back in the fifties, computers were very big, and also very slow. They took up complete floors of a building, and were less powerful, and much slower than any of today’s compact portable computers. At first, the data they had to process and record was fed in on punched-out paper; later magnetic tape was used, but both systems were completely inconvenient.
6. A group of university students from Brazil have been given the job of discovering and locating all the waterfalls in their country. It is not easy because very often the maps are not detailed. The students have to remain in water for long periods of time. Every day they cover a distance of 35 to 40 kilometres through the jungle, each carrying 40 kilos of equipment.
7. Shopping centres are full of all kinds of stores. They are like small, self-contained towns where you can find everything you want. In a large centre, shoppers can find everything they need without having to go anywhere else. They can leave their cars in the shopping centre car park and buy everything in a covered complex, protected from the heat, cold or rain.

Tragedy at Sea

The Titanic, the biggest, fastest and most luxurious ship in the world sank 1_____. There were more than 2.000 people on board. Suddenly the  night watch saw a huge iceberg ahead. The crew tried to turn the ship but she was too huge to turn quickly, and the speed was too great.
