Тема: HALLOWEEN. TRADITIONS AND CUSTOMS

Цели урока:

Практические:  познакомить учащихся с традициями и культурой страны изучаемого языка на основе урока «Хэллоуин».

Воспитательные: воспитание эстетических качеств ребенка в процессе обращения к фольклору, культурным традициям различных стран.

Задачи урока:

Образовательная: совершенствование навыков изучающего чтения по теме;

Развивающая: повышение мотивации к изучению английского языка;

Воспитательная: воспитание уважительного отношения к языку и культуре другой страны.

Языковый материал: Jack-o-lantern, ghost, witch, broom, bat, owl, spider, vampire, monster, castle, spirit, spook, skeleton, scare, frighten, howl, scream.

Оборудование: интерактивная доска, карточки с новыми лексическими единицами, текстами и кроссвордами по данной теме.

Оформление класса: темные шторы, светящиеся игрушки, фонарики, макет костра, плакат с изображением таинственного  леса, тыквы с маленькими фонарикам или свечи.

Комментарий к проведению мероприятия

Урок посвящается подготовке к проведению праздника «Хэллоуин». Учащиеся знакомятся с историей данного праздника, разучивают песню, стихи. Учителем организуется конкурс на лучшую открытку и рисунок к данному празднику. Учащиеся готовят соответствующие костюмы и маски. В качестве ведущего выступает учитель английского языка: Сулейманова Ляйсан  Фаритовна. Урок  проводится в Староутямышевской средней школе. Кабинет  украшается стенгазетами, вырезанными из бумаги привидениями, скелетами, тыквами с вырезанными глазами, носом и ртом. На видном месте стоит тыква со свечой внутри.

Праздник начинается с того, что в классе гасится свет, звучит таинственная музыка, голоса животных (совы). It's Halloween(video 1)

The moon is full and bright

And we shall see what can't be seen

On any other night:

Skeletons and ghosts and ghouls,

Grinning goblins fighting duels,

Werewolves rising from their tombs,

Witches on their magic brooms.

In masks and gowns we haunt the street

And knock on doors for trick or treat.

Tonight we are the king and queen,

For oh tonight it's Halloween!

1. Good morning, boys and girls! I’m glad to see you. Please take your seats. Look at our classroom. You can see the decorations in the form of images of witches, ghosts, pumpkins.

Have you already guessed what holiday are we celebrating today? (Halloween)Yes, you are right. Today we celebrate the American holiday All Saints Day – Halloween. Today we will take a trip to the interesting world of mystery.  We have 2 teams. Let’s get acquainted with you.  Are you ready? Let’s start.

2. Nowadays, Halloween is getting more popular in Russia too. What do you know anything about Halloween?

(Answers)

• Halloween was first celebrated many centuries ago in Ireland and Scotland by Celtic priests called Druids. . Every year they celebrated new Year’s Eve on October 31st with a festival called “SAMHAIN”
• Later Halloween was brought to America by the immigrants from Ireland and Scotland. In the 19th century they celebrated Halloween according to their own traditions The Druids thought that Halloween was the night when the witches came out. As they were afraid of the witches they put on different clothes and painted their faceъs to deceive the evil spirits. They also placed food and small gifts near the doors of their houses for the witches. This was, as they say now, the beginning of the expression "trick or treat”

Now we’ll try to guess their meanings by the pictures. Match the words and the pictures.

Look at the blackboard, please and let’s read the poem.

A face so round and eyes so bright.

A scary mouth with a jolly grin.

No arms, no legs  just head to chin!

Did you guess what it is? That’s right. It’s a pumpkin. But it is a special pumpkin. What is its name? (Jack-o-lantern)

What other the symbols of Halloween do you know?

Answers: The jack-o-lantern, witches, ghosts, black cat, a spider, a bat, goblins.

Yes, you are right. The main symbol is Jack-o-lantern. Children, do you know how to make it?

Look at the blackboard, please. Your task is to put the steps into the correct order.

• Put the candle inside the pumpkin
• Cut a nose and a mouth
• Use a spoon. Scoop out the insides
• Cut eyes
• Cut the top off the pumpkin with a knife
• Take  big yellow pumpkin
• Light the candle
• Put the pumpkin near or in the house

Your time is up. Let’s check up who is the quickest and smartest

We will know it through listening to a video about how to make a pumpkin. So listen and check.

4. Nowadays, Halloween is a time for ringing doorbells and saying trick-or-treat. What tricks do you know?

(Answers)

Children dress scary costumes, go from house to house, knock at the door and say:” Trick or treat”

If they got a treat they go away. However, if they don’t, they play a 'trick' on you, such as making a lot of noise or spilling flour or water on your front doorstep! People give them sweets, fruit, cakes and many other tasty things.

I think now it’s time for making break. During our break let's play the games Apple Bobbing and Apple on the strings. As you know this game is very popular on Halloween. What should you do?  You should choose 3 pupils of each team and get apples without your hands.
