по  теме:

 «The United Kingdom of Great Britain».

Цели урока

1. Обобщить лингвострановедческий материал по указанной теме. Углубить и расширить знания по теме.

        2. Совершенствовать умения и навыки практического владения английским языком по данной теме по всем видам речевой деятельности: аудированию, говорению, чтению и письму.

        3. Повысить интерес к изучению иностранного языка.

Оснащение урока

Интерактивная доска, презентация на диске, раздаточный материал в виде путеводителя.

План урока

I. Сообщение темы и целей урока учащимся, знакомство с условиями и заданиями урока-путешествия, подведением его итогов.

II. Разминка: задаются вопросы о Соединенном Королевстве.

III. Прослушивание гимна, стихотворения «My heart in the Highlands»

Р. Бернса.

IV. Инсценирование диалогов: «Как пройти к Букингемскому дворцу?»/ «Какие вещи лучше взять с собой в путешествие?»

V. Посещение достопримечательностей Соединенного Королевства.

VI. Приобретение лингвострановедческих знаний по Англии, Шотландии, Уэльса и Северной Ирландии.

VII. Выполнение теста «Do you know Britain?»

VIII. Решение кроссворда.

IХ. Подведение итогов урока, объявление команды-победительницы и лучших знатоков страны, вручение призов и выставление оценок.

X. Домашнее задание. Написание сочинения на тему: Pack your luggage! The UK keeps waiting for you!

Ход урока

I. Teacher: Dear boys and girls! I am glad to see you at our lesson today because we have an unusual lesson – a competition in travelling. There are two teams at the lesson: The Scots and The Orkneys. They will show us their knowledge of the UK because our lesson is devoted to this country. We’ll speak about the sights, the capitals of the country, some poets and writers and interesting facts. We’ll have several tasks at the lesson which weren’t prepared at home. I hope our competition will be fun. I have lots of red and green stars here. For an excellent answer you will get a red star. For a good answer you’ll get a blue star. At the end of the competition the jury’ll count your stars you’ve received. The winner will be the team with the biggest number of the red stars. The pupils who shows the best knowledge of the UK will be given special prizes. Let’s start our competition and introduce our teams to each other. What’s the name of the this and that teams?

Students: The name of our team is The Scots/ The name of our team is The Orkneys.

II. The first task is the following: answer the questions about the UK and show on the map. You’ll get a red star for a right answer.

(Обеим командам задаются по 3 вопроса. За правильный ответ команда получает красную звезду, а за ответ с ошибкой – синюю. [3 минуты])

1. Where is the United Kingdom situated? (The UK is situated on the islands.)

2. The UK is an island country. But it has land border. What country does it border on? (It  borders on the Republic of Ireland in the southeast.)

3. Which is the largest island? (Great Britain is the largest country.)

4. How many countries does the UK consist of? (The UK consists of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.)

5.  What are their capitals? (They are London, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Belfast.)

6. What are the national flowers of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland? (They are a rose, a thistle, a daffodil and a shamrock.)

III. Teacher: Now let’s have a rest and listen the national anthem of The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. And tell me, please, about the flag (what does it mean?) and who rules the country in the UK. Is it the Queen or the President? (It’s the Queen and look at the following slide № 7) Do you remember the name of the queen? And now we pay our attention to the symbols and emblems of this country. Look at the Coat of Arms, the money-1 pound, a red double-decker bus and a red telephone box. [5 минут]

IV.  Teacher: Thank you. We continue our tour around the UK. And now you have to solve a problem. Let’s imagine…we are all at Heathrow. But we don’t have any idea how to find Charing Cross 345. How will we find the place where we are going to live during our tour.

V. – VI. Teacher: Wonderful! England, Salute Us! [slide 8] Do you know who is the Yeomen of the Guard? It is the men who form the bodyguard of sovereigns on state occasions. The bodyguard was first formed in the late 15th century and the men still wear the red uniform of that period. There are different symbols and emblems. Look at some of them on the slide 10-31.
