II. Управление тренировкой в овладении материалом.
1. Путешествие по Лондону.
T - Today we are going to visit England. I want to see England very much. I hope that you are very happy too. But one moment! What I hear! Oh, no! Our bus has just broken down and we can’t go to England. It’s pity! But my assistance says that three of you can drive by car. I need three people who will be journalists today and they will describe all that they will see. Who wants to be a journalist?
T - The first place where we will be is the River Thames and the Houses of Parliament. You should describe everything that you see there.
T - Ok, our journalists have already been there. Tell me please what you see?
P – The first that I see is Big Ben. This is a very beautiful clock. Now it’s ten o’clock. It looks very old. When you are there it seems that you are in the past. Gothic-style buildings remind of you the mid-19th century, the site has been a royal palace since the 11th century. Big Ben, the bell in the clock tower, rings every hour. You also can see The River Thames and a lot of ships there. Near Big Ben you see a lot of old buildings. You see the bridge over the River Thames, where cars can drive. On other side of this place we see a lot of new buildings.
T - Thanks for your presentation. And our next journalist. You are in Piccadilly Circus. Please, describe your place.
P – I’m in Piccadilly Circus. It is a beautiful and old place. The first that bursts upon the eye is a winged statue of Eros. It is the Greek god of love. This statue rises in Piccadilly Circus. There are a lot of buildings around Piccadilly Circus. There are stairs around the statue, where people can sit. There is a railing around Piccadilly Circus. I think that the brightest building with the title “Sanyo” is the shopping center. In this view we can see that there are a lot of double-decker buses. And I think that the other buildings are dwellings.
T - Thank you for your presentation. It was very informative. And the last place that we will visit today is Trafalgar Square.
P – At first I want to say that Trafalgar Square is one of the most popular meeting spots in London. The square was built as a monument to British naval hero Viscount Horatio Nelson and his victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. A statue of Nelson sits atop a tall column rising above the square. It is very higher monument that I have ever seen. There are a lot of pigeons in this square. You can see two fountains around this monument, where people can sit. There are a lot of buildings around Trafalgar Square. The National Gallery houses paintings, some of which date from the 13th century. There are small columns around the square.
T - Thank you very much. It was very interesting. I hope that our journalists are not tired. We will wait for their returns.
2. Song “The streets of London”
T - And now let’s sing a song “The streets of London”. Look at the chalkboard, here you can see this song. Let’s read and translate this song. Then after singing the song, write down 8 words you would expect to hear in the song and 2 that you would not expect to hear. Let’s listen to this song and then sing it.
III. Показ функционирования и использования усваиваемого материала.
1. Выполнение упражнения.
T – And now open your books at page 20 and find the exercise 2. Please, read and translate the task to this exercise. What would you expect to see in London? And read the sentences from the table.
From books and television I know that …
And I’d expect the British (Londoners, …) to …
2. Домашнее задание.
T - But now open your record books and write down your homework. Your homework is a monologue. You should make up a monologue about England.
3.Итог урока.
T – Tell me please, what would you like to visit in London? Thank you for your work. The lesson is over. Good bye.

P2- We also see the department stores here. And foreigners can buy some souvenirs to their relatives.
P1- As we see here there is a burial place of the first leader of the Soviet Union.
P2 – As for me the most interesting in this place is Saint Basil’s Cathedral because it is the most famous landmark in Moscow.
P1 – But I can say that the most interesting is the Tsar Bell and the Tsar Cannon. Look at them. They are very big. The Tsar Bell is the largest bell in the world. The Tsar Cannon is the largest cannon in the world and a popular symbol of Russian patriotism.
P2 – I think that the Kremlin will be liked by foreigners.
3. Работа с учебником.
T – Ok, thank you. And now open your books at page 27 and find the exercise 5. You can see these typical images in cartoons and pictures about Russia. Is there any truth at all in any of these stereotypes? What does each of them come from?
T – The British are reputed a good sense of humor, aren’t they? Here are some jokes. Do you find them funny? Let’s read and translate them.
- Daddy, they say that Julius Caesar could do three things at once and he did all of them well!
-Ha, forget about Julius Caesar! I can do five things at once. I can read a newspaper, listen to your Mum, drink beer, watch TV and sleep at the same time!”
The teacher is asking an arithmetic question:
-Frank, you found three dollars in tour right pocket and two dollars in your left pocket. What would you have?
-I’d have somebody else’s trousers on.”
The teacher is asking a geography question:
-Mary, where is the English Channel?
-I don’t know. We can’t it on our TV.”
T – What joke or anecdote would you tell your foreign guests? Try to practice in pairs, and then tell the whole class.
4. Домашнее задание.
T – Open your record books and write down your homework. You should use different books, maps, etc. prepare interesting and useful information about the geographical position, population, people, symbols, etc. of our country.
5. Итог урока.
T – Tell me please, what would you show your foreign friend in our country? Thank you for your work. The lesson is over. Good bye.

II. Показ функционирования и использования усваиваемого материала.
1. Причины для путешествия.
T – Every year a lot of people visit Britain. Can you think of any reasons for travelling to the UK? Complete the Word Web.

Where can you visit an ancient castle?
go boating in a river?
see a stately home?
practice speaking English?
take part in a festival?
What other holiday activities does the map suggest?
2. Работа с виртуальными турами.
T – Tell me please, what places do you want to visit in Britain? Ok, let’s speak about Westminster Abbey. Look at the screen, here you can see the view of this place. Using this view tell me why you want to visit Westminster Abbey.
P – I want to visit Westminster Abbey because it’s the oldest and most important of London’s great churches. This church has a form of cross. This building has three main halls. The first hall is Westminster Abbey Nave. In this hall there are a lot of columns, windows, chairs. This is a place where queens and kings were crowned. I would like to be there. It’s great to be there where queens and kings were. Here I also can see the Tomb of Unknown Warrior. I want to see an organ that is in Sanctuary and Transepts. And the most beautiful in this church is the Coronation Chair. I can’t even imagine how many queens and kings were there. In this church there is a hall where there are a lot of tombs. It is the Chapel Henry VII. There are such tombs as the Tomb of Elizabeth I and Mary I, the Tomb of Princess Mary, the Tomb of Henry VII.
T – Thank you very much. The next view it is the Houses of Parliament. Why do you want to visit this place?
P – I always want to hear the chime of Big Ben. The Houses of Parliament is a big and ancient building. I would like to see this building because the Houses of Parliament was built in Gothic style and in Russia you hardly see such style. The most interesting is Big Ben. I think that it’s the biggest clock in the world.
T – Thanks. I agree with you about Big Ben. I would like to see Big Ben too. The next view is Piccadilly Circus. Tell me please, why you want to visit Piccadilly Circus.
P – As you see near Piccadilly Circus or rather round Piccadilly Circus there are a lot of buildings. Some of them are department stores and I heard that there are a lot of goods there. And maybe I would like to visit this place because of these stores. And I would like to buy all of them. By the time do you know who stays at the center of Piccadilly Circus? This statue is a winged statue of Eros, god of love.

II. Показ функционирования и использования усваиваемого материала.
1. Предъявление нового материала.
2. Обсуждение праздников.
T - Traditions… They make a nation special. Some of them are old-fashioned and few people remember them, others are part of people’s life. Look at the pictures and photos on page 80. What do you think these traditions and traditional celebrations are connected with?
Maybe … is\are connected with … I doubt but … is\are associated with … Probably … make(s) me think of … I can be mistaken but I think … |
T - Surely you know more or less about British traditions and celebrations, but there are some things that you haven’t heard about. Read the story below and say if New Year parties are as popular as Christmas ones? Is the First Foot a proper name? Who receives the name “the First Foot”? What superstitions do British people have?
3. Чтение текстов.
P – “In Britain the New Year is not as widely celebrated as Christian. Some people ignore it completely and go to bed at usual time. Others, however, do celebrate it in one way or another. The most common type of celebration is a New Year party.
There is a funny tradition connected with the New Year: the First Foot. This is the first visitor to enter a house in New Year’s morning. He is a person of great importance. The First Foot must be a man because t is believed that if a woman first sets foot in the house, bad luck will follow throughout the year. He may be a chance caller or a person who comes on purpose to let the New Year into the house and bring good luck to the family. Traditionally, the first visitor of the year must carry food, drink and coal into the house. Coal helps to make a fire in midwinter and there shall never be lack of food and drink during the coming year.”
T – Tell me please, do the Russians have a similar tradition?
T - There аre strange places in Britain and strange people connected with them. Read about one of them and try to explain: Who are the Druids? What is Stonehenge used for? Why did the druids choose June 24th? Is this custom observed today?
P – “Midsummer’s Day, June 24th is the longest day of the year. On that day a very old custom at Stonehenge in Wiltshire, England is observed. Stonehenge is one of the Europe’s biggest stone circles that is 10 or 12 meters high. The earliest part of Stonehenge is approximately 5000 years old. But what was Stonehenge? A holy place? A market? Or a kind of calendar? Actually the Druids priests on Britain used Stonehenge for a calendar. They introduced it about 2000 years ago. The sun and the stones at Stonehenge let the Druids know when the months and seasons start. On the morning of June 24th the sun shines on one famous stone – the Heel Stone, this is the most important moment of the year for the Druids. There are Druids in Britain today, too, and every June a lot of them attend Stonehenge. It is a strange, rare but still living custom.”
4. Составление монологического высказывания.
T – And now look at the chalkboard, here you can see some expressions. Let’s read and translate them.
P – Biggest stone circles,
spacious fields,
large and high stones,
to consist of a circle group of …,
in ruins,
ritual monument,
prehistoric monument,
holy place,
a kind of calendar,
astronomical calendar,
the Druids priests.
T – Look at the screen, here you can see the view of Stonehenge. Try to use these expressions and tell about this beautiful and ancient place.
P - Stonehenge is a prehistoric and ritual monument. This monument consists of large and high stones. These stones are in spacious fields. They stand alone in these fields. Stonehenge looks like biggest stone circles. Now this monument is in ruins, because it had already passed about 2000 years. Now people try to understand for what the Druids priests used Stonehenge. Some people think that this place was used as holy place. Others think that it was used as an astronomical calendar.
5. Домашнее задание.
- Open your record books and write down your homework. Your homework is to tell about Russian traditions.
6. Итог урока.
- Tell me please, what British traditions do you know? Thank you for your work. The lesson is over. Good bye.
