Урок - проект:«Christmas party»

Цели урока: систематизировать и обобщить знания учащихся по теме

 “Christmas and New Year” (Unit 5 Lesson 8), познакомить учащихся на практике с традициями британского народа, осуществлять развитие мотивации к дальнейшему овладению английским языком.

Задачи урока:

1. Учебная: провести практику учащихся в речевой деятельности, умению самостоятельно и быстро включаться в разговор, аудировать и проявлять активность в говорении.

2. Воспитательная: формировать уважительное отношение к культуре другого народа, потребности и способности к сотрудничеству и взаимопомощи при работе в группе.

3. Развивающая: развивать творческую фантазию, внимание, самостоятельность и инициативу в осуществлении иноязычной деятельности.

Teacher: Hello! Today we have the last lesson of the year. And it is a project. Its name is Christmas party. I know you have prepared for it and you are looking forward to your favorite celebration. So let’s start. We have two teams. I would like to know the names of the teams.

(Children tell the names of the teams)

Let’s introduce our guests who will help us to judge the teams.

And now the first task for you. You have learned a lot about Christmas and New Year’s traditions in different countries. I think you can answer some questions. We play a guessing game.

1) What is this or who is this?

1. It’s a holiday which is celebrated on the 25th of December.

2. It’s an old man who comes from the North Pole on his sledge and brings presents to everybody at Christmas.

3. It’s decorated with lights, toys, tinsel and it is in all the houses and in squares.

4. It’s a thing which is very dear to children at Christmas as they find presents in it in the morning.

5. It’s a traditional dish which people cook for Christmas party. They think that if they all take part in mixing it, they will be happy.

6. What is white and made out of snow?

7. Explain in one word Santa’s suit after he goes down a chimney.

8. What is the end of Christmas?

2) You have got some points for your teams. And now we will see and listen to small presentations and learn some new things from them (One of the presentations)

1st slide. The most popular holiday in Britain is Christmas. Every year people of Norway give the city of London a present. It’s a big Christmas tree and it stands in Trafalgar Square.

2nd slide. British people put a Christmas tree in the homes and the families decorate it together.

3d slide. They drink hot chocolate by the Christmas tree and talk about Christmas miracles.

4th slide. The rooms in English houses look very gay with holly and mistletoe and evergreens and coloured paper.

5th slide. Before Christmas groups of people go from house to house. They sing Christmas carols and collect money for charity.

6th slide. Children write letters to Father Frost. They tell what they wait for Christmas and promise to be good in the coming year.

7th slide. On the morning of 25 December children find a lot of presents in their stockings.

8th slide. On 25 of December they always have a turkey, Christmas pudding, mince, pies, apples, oranges and nuts.

Teacher: I suppose some facts were you have known but some facts were new for you. And now a quiz for you. (Quiz in the form of presentation with animated pictures)

Teacher: Well done! For every right answer you’ve got a bauble or a toy. You can decorate your small Christmas tree. By the end of the lesson your trees will have been very beautiful. And now you have a poem but some words are missed. Complete the sentences of the poem using the word: tea, boys, toys, tree. Who will do it quicker? One point for the poem.

Teacher: I hope you remember some poems about winter and Christmas in English. Can you recite some of them?

(1-2 remembers of the teams recite poems)

For example:

Christmas Morning (P 53 Ex5)

I wake on Christmas Morning,

My stocking on my bed;

Christmas Eve has come and gone

And Santa Claus has fled.

My parents all around me;

A Bike! A ball to throw!

I look through the window pane,

At footsteps in the snow.

Outside, it’s wild

Teacher: So nice poems.

And can you name words which you associate with Christmas.

Children name some words.

And now I ask the captains of the teams name the words which mean the following things.

Teacher: I think it’s time for singing:

Which team can sing this song (Jingle bells) more beautifully?

(Teams perform the song)

Teacher: It was very good. But you know English children have a good tradition. In their letters to Father Frost they promise to be good. And whale about you can you make some promises? Everybody has a piece of paper and felt tip pens. Write one right now, please.

(Children hang their papers on the board and read their promises)

Teacher: I know you have made Christmas cards either. You can show them and congratulate their friends.

(Children read and give their cards to their classmates)

Teacher: But what a celebration without dancing. Let’s dance.

Put your hands up in the air

And shake your bodies round

Hand up on your toes

And turn around, around

Hands way up high

Hands way down low

Stamp with your feet

And jump, jump, jump.

Teacher: I hope you are having fun now. But Christmas can’t be celebrated without Christmas pudding. And do you now how to cook it? You have a recipe of a Christmas pudding but the sentences are mixed. Place them into the right order, make the pudding. Which team will be the first? (AB P 40 Ex 2)

A. Bake the biscuits for 10 to 15 minutes at 180 C

B. Put the mixture in some silver paper. Then put it in the fridge for an hour.

C. Roll out the mixture. Cut out Christmas shapes a Christmas tree or a Christmas star, for example.

D. Add the egg yolk and half a teaspoon of cold water. Make the mixture into a ball.

E. Eat the biscuits when they are cool. Mmm … delicious.

F. Next add the flour and spices. Mix well.

G. First mix the butter and sugar together in a bowl.

Teacher: I know that you have prepared Christmas dishes. What are they?

Teams tell about their dishes and give out recipes.

Teacher: Well your Christmas trees are decorated and you have Christmas dishes on the tables. I think they are really tasty. After the lesson you can try them. And now. What team has won? Which Christmas tree has more toys on it? Count the toys please.

Teacher gives marks to each student and comments them.
