And now let’s play the game “COMPLIMENTS- ADJECTIVES”.

The first player should say why he likes Moscow: “Dear friends, everybody knows that Moscow is a very beautiful city. Would you like to tell about Moscow good things? It must be only adjectives. Let us tell why we like, we are proud of Moscow”.

The player who tells the last compliment will be the winner.

   Please, don’t repeat the same things twice!

 James has sent an e-mail to us.

 You know that he dreams of visiting Russia, Moscow. But he can’t arrive so soon. He asks to help him to decode the secret message and find the mysterious treasure. He writes that our adventure will connect with the mysterious library of Ivan IV the Terrible and the box for charter about accession to the throne of tsar Ivan IV Vasilyevich. Тoday we should  start  our journey and find the key word. It is connected with the mysterious treasure. Your knowledge about the history of Moscow will help you to cope with a task.

Could you guess what the topic of our lesson is?

Yes, today we’ll speak about the history of Moscow.

    You will know more about historical places, historic events, famous people in Moscow’s history.  

    And you should find out where the mysterious treasure is.

Read text A. “History of Moscow and Muscovy” and divide it into paragraphs.

And now answer the questions:

1. When and where was Moscow first mentioned?

2. Who is considered the founder of

Moscow?

3.  When was Ivan Kalita appointed chief tax collector?

4. Who defeated the Mongol army at the Battle of Kulikovo?

5. Who started the reconstruction of the Kremlin in stone and put brick walls around the Kremlin and Kitay – Gorod?

6. What was built at the end of the 16th century?

And now look through the text again and answer the question:

What do these figures 1) 1147; 2) 14; 3) 50; 4) 16; 5) 30; from text A stand for?

Read text A again and find the words for the following definitions.

You should find the famous historical monuments.

But our journey will continue next time!  Next time you’ll know more about the Kremlin, the history of the Kremlin, about Ivan IV the Terrible and his mysterious library and the box for charter about accession to the throne of tsar Ivan IV Vasilyevich.

   At home you should make a report about sights of Moscow you like or about famous persons of ancient Moscow.

Prince Yury Dolgoruky constructed a series of fortifications along the left bank of the Moskva River.
