Урок по теме: «Америка»
8 класс,к учебнику английского языка ,авторы Афанасьева О.В.,Михеева И.В.
Цели урока: развитие языковой компетенции учащихся через обобщение знаний по теме «Путешествие по Америке».
Задачи урока:
Социокультурный аспект – знакомство с национальными символами Америки и достопримечательностями Вашингтона.
Развивающий аспект – развитие коммуникативных навыков;
Воспитательный аспект – воспитание уважительного отношения к иноязычной культуре;
Учебный аспект – совершенствование лексических навыков говорения в виде монологической речи.
Оснащение урока:
Компьютер;
Презентация программы “Power Point”;
Обобщающее упражнение.
Ход урока.
1.Организационный момент.
- Good morning boys and girls.
-I’m glad to see you again.
2.Вступление.
- Today we have an unusual lesson.
-Just now we are going to Washington D.C.
Учитель читает стихотворение.
America.
America, America – a beauty of the world –
Mysterious and strong, and praised in different songs!
What can I tell about you? What can I do for you?
America, America – my love, my dream, my fate….

T. Every country has its own symbols. You’ll hear the history about American flag.
P1. On July 4 th,1776, 13 colonies became the USA .On June 14 th,1777, an official flag for the new nation was established. Continental Congress decided that the flag should have 13 stripes (red and white) and 13 stars (white in a blue field). Every new star , which was added to the Flag symbolized the admission of each new state to the USA. As the most common belief goes ,the 1-st flag was sewed by Betsy Ross in her house. The flag of the USA is called Stars and Stripes .Today the flag has 13 horizontal stripes and 50 stars in the left top of corner. The stripes represent original 13 colonies ,50 stars represent current 50 states of the Union.

T. Bald eagle is the national symbol of the USA.
P2. The National Symbol of the USA, the Bald Eagle ,is the only eagle unique to North America. It was chosen as an emblem because of its long life, great strength and impressive looks and also because at that time Americans thought that this bird existed only the American continent. The eagle symbolizes independence and freedom.

T. Do you know that Statue of Liberty is the national symbol of America too.
P3. Among national symbols of the country we can name the Statue of Liberty.
The Statue is a present from France to the American. It was presented on July 4-th 1884. It was designed by Frederic Bartholdi as a monument to a great hundred year international friendship between America and France during the American revolutionary war.
To transport it from France the Statue was taken to 350 pieces.
The Statue’s official name is «Liberty Enlightening the World».

P4. «Star-Spangled Banner»is the American anthem. It was written in 1814 by Francis Scott Key.
The Anthem is devoted to the National Flag . People from many countries know the music of the anthem. You’ll hear it .

P5. Washington D.C. is the capital of the USA. It lies on the Potomac river .It’s located in the District of Columbia. The District of Columbia itself is between two states- Maryland and Virginia.
The District of Columbia is not connected to any American State, because it is an independent territory where the national capital is.
This territory got its name after the discovered of America, Christopher Columbus.
The capital was named after the 1-st U.S. President , George Washington.

P6. The Capitol is the place where the American Congress sits. It’s the symbol of American Power. In 1791 the corner-stone of the Capitol was built almost in the centre of the city on the Capitol Hill. A bronze Statue of Freedom is on the top of the Capitol’s dome.

P7.Washington is often called «the heart of America». The government of the States works and the President lives here. The population of Washington is not big. The buildings in Washington are not high. It is because of a special law which forbids to build houses taller than the capitol. So, Washington is the city with no sky-scrapers. The White House is the official Presidential residence. It has the most well-know address in the USA-1600, Pennsylvania Avenue. It is a two-storied white building ,which consist of 132 rooms. The White house was built in1799. All the President of the USA lived in it except for George Washington (because when he was the president,the White House had not been built yet.)

P8.One of the most impressive sights in Washington is the famous Washington Monument. It looks like a Huge pencil and it’s called «The Pencil». The Monument was constructed in 1888. It high is 555 feet.There is an elevator in the Washington Monument which can bring visitors to the top of it in 70 seconds.

P9.There are also such famous memorials in Washington as the Jefferson Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial. The Jefferson Memorial built in memory of Thomas Jefferson, who was the 3-rd president of the USA. He was the author who wrote the Declaration of Independence.
P10.The Lincoln Memorial was built in memory of Abraham Lincoln ,the 16-th American president.
