«Великобритания»
Класс: 9
(игра-викторина проводилась между учащимися всех параллелей девятых классов)
Цель:
Формирование коммуникативной компетенции учащихся на основе изученных лексических единиц, речевых и грамматических структур по страноведческой тематике.
Задачи.
1. Образовательные задачи
- обобщение изученного материала по теме «Великобритания»;
- совершенствование навыков устной речи;
- актуализация страноведческого материала;
- тренировка учащихся в умении вести общение на английском языке в предлагаемых ситуациях.
2. Развивающие задачи
- развитие у учащихся навыков использования лексических и грамматических структур;
- развитие навыков разговорной речи с использованием пройденного материала;
- формирование у учащихся собственного мнения, умение давать полные развёрнутые ответы;
- развитие навыков понимания устной речи;
- повышение лингвострановедческого потенциала детей;
3. Воспитательные задачи
- воспитание толерантного отношения к людям других национальностей;
- воспитывать у учащихся интерес к изучению английского языка.
(Игра викторина проводилась среди учащихся 9-х классов. Судьями были учащиеся 11-го класса)
Ход игры-викторины
- Hello, boys and girls! We are glad to greet you at our game! All children like to play. That’s why we shall play the game today. There are three teams in our classroom and we have three members of our jury today. The first one is 8 “A”, and its captain is…. The second team is 8 “B”, and its captain is… And the third team is 8 “g”? its captain is…..
- Now listen to the rules of our game. The game consists of stages, each of them includes different tasks. You’ll get points for right answers.
1. The first task is…. You should answer the questions as quickly as you can. For each right answer you’ll get one point.
- What the official name of the country which we call Great Britain? (The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland)

3. All of us know that the capital of the United Kingdom is London. And now I want you to listen to my stories. I shall describe different places of interest of London. And your task is to guess these sights. Each right answer is 1 point.
- There are many old and new beautiful parks in London. This park is the largest one. It is one of the most popular places of Londoners during the hot summer days. The park is famous for its Speaker’s Corner. (Hyde Park)
- It is a wonderful building. The Queen Victoria Memorial is situated in front of it. It takes you ten minutes to get from this building to Trafalgar Square, which is the centre of London. The Queen of Great Britain lives here. (Buckingham Palace)
- It is one of the greatest English churches. It is not far from the Tower of London. The famous English architect Sir Christopher Wren built it in the 17th century after the Great Fire. It is a fine building with many columns and towers. In one of the towers there is one of the largest bells in the world. (St. Paul’s Cathedral)
- It is more than nine hundred years old. There are many monuments and statues there, many English kings and queens are buried there. It is famous for the Poet’s Corner. It is one of the most famous and beautiful churches in London. This church has two tall towers. (Westminster Abbey)
- It was a fortress, a palace, a prison and the King’s Zoo. Now it is a museum. You can see a lot of interesting things in the halls of this building. William the Conqueror built it in the eleventh century. Twelve black ravens live in it. People believe that London will be rich while the ravens live there. (The Tower)
- It is a long grey building with towers. The large clock in one of the towers is known as “Big Ben”. You can hear the sound of “Big Ben” every hour in London. The clock and the bell got their names after Sir Benjamin Hall. The members of the British Parliament work in this building. (The Houses of Parliament)

5. And the last task for today. I’ll give out you some cards and your task will be to make up the names of British cities (or towns)
