Викторина “Do you know Great Britain?”

для учащихся 6-7 классов

Данная викторина предназначена для учащихся 6-7 классов с углублённым изучением английского языка для проверки знаний  по изученным темам и общего уровня развития по географии, истории и литературе. Наиболее эффективно проведение викторины в качестве обобщения материала после изучения темы.  В викторине принимают участие две или три команды. Учащиеся отвечают на вопросы и получают баллы. Счёт команд выводится на доску. Выигрывает команда, набравшая наибольшее количество баллов.  

Цели: воспитание уважительного отношения к стране изучаемого языка, повышение интереса к изучению иностранного языка, расширение кругозора, воспитание культуры общения.

Задачи: систематизировать и проверить знания учащихся по теме «Великобритания», развивать умение воспринимать информацию на слух.

Оборудование: доска, компьютер и проектор (для показа иллюстраций к заданиям).

Ход мероприятия:

1. Организационный момент.

Good morning, dear pupils. We’re glad to see you at our quiz «Do you know Great Britain»? You’ve already got much information about Great Britain: its people, customs, traditions, way of life, sightseeing. And now it’s time to know who learnt more than others.

2. Проведение викторины.

Task 1. Holidays.

There are a lot of holidays which are celebrated in the UK. Listen to the small text and say what holiday is it about.

1. This holiday is celebrated in spring. It’s a very funny day. You can hear jokes everywhere. People play jokes. (April Fool’s Day)
2. It is a religious holiday and one of the happiest holidays of the year. They decorate a tree with toys and lights. Santa Claus visits children and bring presents. (Christmas)
3. It is a merry holiday. People celebrate it at the end of the year. They are waiting this holiday with new hopes and dreams. But it is not so popular in Great Britain. (New Year Day)
4. This day is celebrated on February, 14th. It is a day of love and friendship. They send greeting cards and sweethearts. (St.Valentine’s Day)
5.  People celebrate this holiday on the 31st of October. Children wear masks and colourful costumes. The most popular costumes are ghosts, witches and skeletons. (Halloween)
6. This holiday is celebrated on a Sunday in April or May. Before this holiday people color eggs.

     Task 3. The famous people.  (Приложение 1)

     You know a lot of famous people. Guess who are they and choose the picture.

1. He was one of the most well-known poets and playwrights of the world, born in the 16th century. (William Shakespeare)
2. She was the only woman Prime Minister in the UK called «The Iron Lady». (Margaret Thatcher)
3. This monarch was married 6 times, his daughter Elisabeth I became the famous queen also. (Henry VIII)
4. He is a national Scottish poet. Remember his poem «My heart’s in the Highlands, My heart is not here…» (Robert Burns)
5. Her residence is in Buckingham Palace. British people love her very much. (The Queen)

Task 4. What-questions.

3. What is the population of the UK nowadays? (58 mln)
4. What city is the capital of the Northern Ireland? (Belfast)
5. What is the address of the Prime Minister? (10, Downing Street)
6. What is the oldest part of London? (The City)
7. What is one of the most ancient buildings of London, founded by William the Conqueror in the 11th century, used as a fortress, a palace, a prison and a royal treasury? (The Tower)

Task 5. Sightseeing. (Приложение 2)

There are a lot of interesting places of interest in the United Kingdom. Look at the pictures and name the sightseeing.

Task 7. Captain’s contest.

Now captains should answer the questions and bring points to their team.

2. What animals are special in Britain? (cats)
3. What big industrial cities of the UK do you know? (Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham)
4. What is the favourite game in Britain? (cricket)
5. What is the national drink of Great Britain? (tea with milk)
6. What do English people like to talk about? (weather)
7. When did the Great Fire of London take place? (1666)
8.  When do English people usually drink tea? (at 5 o’clock)
9.  When was William Shakespeare born? (1564)
