Back ground information Paris is the capital of France. It has a population of 2.2 million people and it is a popular tourist destination with many famous sights including Notre Dame Cathedral and the Eiffel Tower. Seattle is a large city in the state of Washington in the USA. It is a large seaport. It is a popular tourist resort and a home to the Space Needle. Melbourne is the second biggest city in Australia. It is the capital of the state of Victoria in the south-east of the country. It is a centre for arts, entertainment and tourism.

Read the text again and find the numerals in it. Copy them into your exercise books. Then say what these numbers refer to. (Ex.2p.38) 184m – It’s the height of the Space Needle . 300m – It’s the height of the Eureka Skydeck 88 . 43seconds – how long it takes to get to the top of the Space Needle . 324m – It’s the height of the Eiffel Tower. 10.000tonnes –it’s the weight of the Eiffel Tower. 6 million people visit the Eiffel Tower every year.
