познакомить с культурными реалиями англоговорящих стран

Open your copybooks, write down today’s date and write about Russian festivals and holidays.
Take the sheets of paper on your desks. There are names of the holidays and an example there. I give you 2 minutes to do the task.

A. In Russia Mother’s Day is celebrated since 1998. This holiday is on the last Sunday in November. It is time for people of all ages to visit their mothers to say “Thank you”, kiss and hug them and give them sweets and other presents.
B. Women’s Day is on 8 March. In Russia it is a public holiday. It is a wonderful spring festival for all women and girls. Men and boys give them little gifts. Yellow mimosas, tulips and roses are the most popular flowers. In kindergartens and schools children sing songs and dance for their mothers and grandmothers.
C. On the second Sunday in May American children treat (угощают) their moms to something special. On Mother’s Day morning children bring breakfast in bed for their mothers, and fathers cook family dinner. Many kids make or buy gifts, too.
D. In the UK Mothering Sunday or Mother’s Day has no fixed date. It is celebrated on the fourth Sunday of Lent (пост). Children give their dear mummy presents, flowers and cards to express their love. The most popular flowers on Mother’s Day are roses and carnations. (гвоздики)
