He comes on Christmas Eve (канун), the night before Christmas, when they are sleeping. In the morning children find the presents under the Christmas tree. New Year’s Day celebrates the start of a new year. Americans celebrate New Year’s Day on the first day of January, but the celebration begins on December 31, New Year’s Eve (канун), the night before New Year’s Day. Parents allow their children not to sleep until midnight. Some people don’t sleep all the night. Usually Americans cook special tasty dishes, dance, sing songs and shout “Happy New year”. Sometimes they invite their friends to the party or visit them themselves. People buy presents and send postcards to their friends and relatives. Also they decorate their homes.
