Pupils write down the rules into their exercise-books and learn them.
Teacher. These modal verbs (should, ought to) are used when we speak only about Present or Future and not Past tense! The difference between them is the following:
1) We often use should when we ask for or give an opinion about
something. In this case we often use / think ...I don't think ... Do you
think...?"
E x a m p 1 e : I think you should write a letter to your brother.
2) We often use ought to when we speak about laws, duties, rules.
Example: You ought to obey your parents.
2. Writing.
Teacher. You are giving advice to a friend.
a) Use should or shouldn 't
Examples:
1) Your friend is always coughing (кашляет) because he smokes
too much. Advise him to stop smoking.
Pi: You should stop smoking.
2) Your friend has a bad toothache. Advise him to go to the dentist.
Pi: You (should go to the dentist).
3) Your friend rides his bicycle at night without lights. You think
this is dangerous. Advise him not to do it.
Pi: You (shouldn't ride your bicycle at night without lights).
4) Your friend is going to visit Greece. Advise him to learn a few
words of Greece before he goes.
Pi: You (should learn a few words of Greece before you go).
(Pupils can do this exercise orally or in written form.)

- Следует стучаться перед тем, как Вы входите.

brother were Liz and Philip as children? 2. Listening.
Tapescript
Question: What were you like?
Liz: Everybody said that Philip was a cute boy, but I hated my|
horrible brother.
Philip: Liz said to her friends "This is my brother. Isn't he cool?" But when we were alone she thought I was stupid.
Question: Did you fight a lot?
Liz: Yeah, when he annoyed me and teased me.
Philip: We fought over really small things like CD's and who should walk the dog.
Question: Do you enjoy other's company? Liz: He's not a bad brother. Sometimes he's quite nice and generous. We go to clubs together sometimes.
Philip: We get on much better now. We can chat about everything.
(Выполняя задание по прослушиванию текста, менее подготовленные учащиеся могут пользоваться текстом.)
3. Post-listening.
Pupils answer the question before the text.
Example:
Pi: To my mind Liz is rather bossy and unpleasant. But she is honest. She tells the truth about her brother. They have some problems with Philip. But in general, they go to clubs together and they can chat about everything.
4. Reading for details.
Teacher. Read the interview once more and find more details about the relations of Liz and Philip!
(Pupils read the text using their dictionaries. They learn to guess the meanings of new words.)
Example: As for me, Liz is bad-tempered. She can say bad things about her brother. And Philip is a usual little boy. Of course, he can annoy and tease his sister. But he likes her very much!
- VII. Speaking.
- 1. Ex. 4, p, 48.

- We were great friends with my father and especially I loved my brother when he was 5 years old. He was much fatter in his childhood. He was funny and talkative. I was fond of playing with him. As for my character I was selfish and bossy. I always made my brother play what I wanted to play.

- P2: Yeah, when he annoys me and teases me! We even fight with him! We fight over really small things like CD's!
- P3: I see Mike. And what about your cousin? Has he got such problems?
P2: Peter is an only child and he hasn't got such problems. He's| got some other problem, such as: he is always alone; he can't talk to] anybody when he has got a problem!
P3: Poor thing! You should help him!
P2: Of course, I will.
