Litter is garbage – like food, paper and cans – on the ground or in the street. Where many people live together, litter is a real disaster. People don’t always put their garbage in the bins. It’s easier to drop a paper than to find a bin for it. But litter is ugly. It makes the city look dirty, and it spoils the view.
The wind blows papers far away. Often they are difficult to catch. When they blow against a fence, they stay there. This fence is a wall of garbage.
Litter is a health problem, too. Food and garbage attract animals, which sometimes carry disease.
Some people want to control litter. They never throw litter themselves, and sometimes they work together in groups to clean up the city. In most places litter is against the law. The law punishes people who throw garbage in the streets. They usually pay a fine, and occasionally they go to jail.

Good morning. I’m ringing from Calstra telephone services, to inform you of our very special rates on calls made to anywhere in Europe and Latin America. I don’t know what you are paying at the moment but I can guarantee that with Calstra you’ll make substantial savings on your phone bills. You don’t have to decide right away, but why not just take up our special trial period offer and see how much you can save?
Speaker 2
We’ve known each other for such a long time that if we can’t have a disagreement and still remain friends, I think it’s a shame. I can’t say that I think that what you did is right - in fact, I think you should have thought about a lot more before you did it - but that’s in the past and we need to put it behind us. After all - we can all make mistakes — I know that I make plenty - but we have to leant from them and move on.
Speaker 3
On the very first day in our college you’ll get a student’s card. The card contains the most essential information about you, such as your name, the name of the school, the course you are taking. This card is necessary if you want to borrow some books from the college library. And it also gives you discounts in the stationary shop, in the students’ cafe or if you use city buses. Tickets for students are cheaper than for other passengers, but you need to have your card with you. And certainly if you go somewhere by our school bus, the driver may ask you to show your student’s card.
Speaker 4
I have talked to a lot of people about this, and it seems to me that we are not doing enough to look after our planet generally -1 mean that we could all do a lot more. Recycling, saving energy — all that sort of things. I agree that it’s not easy - and it seems a lot to do - but we could all take more responsibility for our own bit of the world. We can learn so much from nature and the natural world - and we have certainly made a lot of mistakes in the past. We have to conserve what we have now, for the future.
Speaker 5
When you register for the exam, you need to fill in the form. Please write your first name and your last name in block letters. Your contact information should contain your address and your telephone number, so that we can contact you by phone. After that, you get your exam ticket - it’s a special card where you will find your personal number, the date and time of the exam, number of the room you need to go to, and the name of your examiner. Please, make sure that you come on time. We don’t accept any excuses like missed buses or traffic jams.
You have 20 seconds to complete the task (Pause 20 seconds).
You win hear the text again (Repeat).
You have 20 seconds to check your answers (Pause 20 seconds).
