Методическая разработка заседания клуба «Современный мир» на тему: «Англо-говорящие страны»

Данное заседание проводится в форме викторины между двумя командами.        

Такой вид работы активизирует мыслительную и речевую деятельность учащихся, развивает их интерес к  странам, где английский язык является государственным. Обучающиеся получают дополнительную информацию о странах, культуре и традициях населения.  Кроме этого у обучающихся  расширяется как активный, так и пассивно-потенциальный словарь. И немаловажно, что учащиеся получают удовлетворение от такого вида работы.

Цели:

Образовательная:

- Расширить и углубить знания по теме «Англо-говорящие страны - Великобритания, Канада, США, Австралия, Новая Зеландия»

- Знакомство с историей, географией, культурой и литературой этих стран;

Развивающая:

Вырабатывать навыки языкового общения студентов и раскрывать их индивидуальные творческие способности

Воспитывающая: 

- Формирование уважительного, толерантного отношения к достижениям других культур;

- Формирование потребности и способности к коллективной работе в команде

C O M P E T I T I O N

                      « DO   YOU   KNOW   ENGLISH – SPEAKING    COUNTRIES ?»

A  slogan  on  the  board: « Learn  English  and  you’ll  be  lucky!»

1. Meeting  and greeting  of  the  teams.

Good  afternoon, everybody! I am glad  to  see  you  at  our  competition. It is devoted to  the  English – speaking  countries. I am  sure  you  have read a  lot  of  books  and  got  useful  information about  the  countries. This competition  will  show  your achievements  and  your  knowledge  of  the matter.

 I  wish  you  success. Be  active,  honest,  industrious  and  helpful  an you  will  be  sure  to  win.

                  II. Introduction  of  the  teams  and  captains.

    Now  it s  time  to  introduce  yourselves. I want  the  captains  to  come  over and name yourselves.

                  The  1 st  game:  « Do  you  know  English- speaking  countries?»

                       Two students  from  each  team.

 Will  you  mention  English- speaking  countries  in  turn? Work as hard  as  you

 can!  I ll  give  you  1 minute  for  this  kind  of  work. Every country you name and show on the map brings your  one  point. You  are  welcome!

       Visual  aids:  A  geographical  map  of  the  world

                 The  2 nd  game: « Flags  and  capitals »

                        Two  students  from  each  team. 6 points.

 The  next  competition  is  called  « Flags  and  capitals». I  want  you  to  look at  the  blackboard. You  see  many  different flags. The  1 st  team  must  put cards  with  the  names of  the  countries  and  the  2 nd  team  must  put  the names  of  the  capitals. The winners  will  be  those  who  finish  their  work first. Here are  two  envelopes  with  cards. Captains! Will you  take  your envelope, please!

       Visual  aids:  Flags ( 5 ).  Cards ( 5 )- countries. Cards ( 5)- capitals.

 The  3 th  game: « The  ABC  game»

                           2 teams. 4 points.

Teacher:  Children, now  you ll  get  some  letters  from  the  English  alphabet. You must  put  these  letters  in  the  right  order, so  as  to  get  the  name  of  the country. The  winner  will  be  the  team  that  finishes  this  kind  of  work earlier.

           Visual  aids:  Cards  with  letters ( 2 copies ).  The  answer: ( for  example ) :  Ireland.

                The  4  rd  game: « Countries  and  citizens»

                        Two  captains. 10  points.

Dear  friends!  Now  we ll  see  whose  captain  is  the  best. Come up  to   and  fill  in  the  form. Open  your  envelopes  and  let’s  begin the  game.      

        Visual  aids:  In  the  envelope: America.

                              The  answer: an  American, the  Americans. Etc.

The  5  th  game: Place the largest country starting with the largest area

        2 teams, 1 point

              The  answer: Canada, America, Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain

The 6 th  game: « When and where the last Olympic Games were held?»

                           2 teams .1 point.

The 7 th  game: « Riddle  countries»

                           2 teams .4 points.

  Guess  the  names  of  these  countries. Listen  to  me  and  be  very attentive! The  winner  will  be  the  team  that  gives  the  right  answer  and does  it  quicker  than  the   other  team.

 1.This  is  one  of  the  largest  countries  of  the  world. It  is  washed  by  the Atlantic  Ocean  in  the  East  and  by  the  Pacific  Ocean  in  the  West. What is  it?  ( the  USA )

 2. This  country has  a  very  high living  standard. People  speak  many languages there. The  main  symbol  on  the  flag  is  a  maple  leaf. What  is  it?   (Canada )

3.It  is  a  country  which  looks  like  an  island. It  is  not  very  big, but  it s very  beautiful. It is  the  country  of  fog  and  rain. There are  a  lot  of  places of  interest. ( Great  Britain )

4. This country occupies a  whole  continent. It has strange animals and plants. It is very far from  our  country.( Australia )

                The  8 th  game : « Name British and American cities»

                           2 teams. 1 point  for  the  right  answer.

                   The  9 th  game : « Parts  and  wholes.»

7  points.

            Combine  these  parts  so  as  to  get  a  name. Who  will  be  the  first?

                    The  10 th  game: « Musical  competition»

              Friends! Do  you  like  music?  I  see. Could  you  name  any  British  or American  singers,          pop  groups  and  composers?  Well  done.  I m  absolutely  sure that  the  subject  of  most  pop  songs  is  love.  The Beatles  sang  about  it, sang  about  love. Now I want you to show how you the legends of music  ( Elvis Presley , Michael  Jackson, Beatles, Frank Sinatra)

                      III. The  end  of  the  competition.    

Dear  friends! It is a pity  but  our  competition  has  just  finished.

Thank  you  for  coming  and  taking  an  active  part  in  the  competition.
