Air pollution is the result of man’s use of chemicals, And Is a common hazard in both industrial and developing Countries. One of the forms of air pollution is acid rain. acid rain results from the release into the atmosphere of sulfur oxide and nitrogen oxide. Electrical plants, Industrial boilers and automobiles are among chief sourcesOf these emissions. The gases react with water droplets, Forming a mixture of sulfuric acid and nitric acid, this mixture returns to earth in the form of acid rain, mist or snow. acid rain is killing vast stretches of forests in Canada,the United States, and central and northern Europe. Acidrain has acidified lakes and streams making them unable tosupport fish, wildlife, plants and insects.
The Blue Whale, the Panda, the California Big Tree are on the verge of Extinction now. Gone forever are dinosaurs, pessenger pigeons, California grizzly bears. Elephants, jungle-cats, and Asian rhinoceroses are being killed off for their ivory tasks, furs, or horns. Many animals have gone forever, as Their habitats have been destroyed at an alarming rate: 340 miles a day! These are the rainforests which are in Central and South America, Africa, Philippines, Malaysia, Australia, India and Madagaskar.
Litter is garbage like food, paper and cans on the ground or in the Street: Where many people live together, litter is a problem. People don’t always put their garbage in the garbage can. It’s easier to drop a paper than to find a garbage can for it. But litter is ugly. It makes the city look dirty, and it spoils the view. Rubbish problem is one of the acutest problems in our settlement.
Nuclear power is cheap, clean and safe…. Sometimes. The explosion in Chernobyl shows it canbe wrong. Nuclear weapons destroy the world. Nuclear weapon tests increase the amount of radiation in the atmosphere. Nuclear power produces high-level radioactive waste which can be dangerous for thousands of years.
There is a layer called ozone. It covers the Earth. It protects us from the dangerous rays of the sun. But if ozone comes close to the Earth,in acid rains, for example, it is also very dangerous itself and causes diseases. There are now holes in the ozone layer because there are toomany “greenhouse” gases. Scientists say they are over the South Pole and over New York.
