Тема: Соединенное королевство Великобритании и Северной Ирландии

Цель: формирование коммуникативных компетенций.

Задачи:

- обучающие: формирование лексических навыков говорения и применение их на практике;

- развивающие: развивать навыки говорения, аудирования и чтения; развивать способности к догадке, коммуникабельности; развивать способность к анализу и отбору информации;

- воспитательные: формировать уважение к стране, изучаемого языка;

Тип урока: комбинированный.

Оборудование: компьютер, проектор, доска, раздаточный материал, УМК «Planet of English», доска.

Ход урока

1. Начало урока.

1. Организационный момент.
Teacher: Good morning students! I’m glad to see you!

Students: Good morning teacher!

Teacher:  How are you? 
Students: We are fine. And how are you?
Teacher: I` am fine, too. Thank you. Sit down, please! What date is it today?
Student: Today is the 8th of February.
Teacher: Who is absent today?
Student: Nobody is absent today. All students are present. All students are at the 
lesson.
Teacher: OK. 

2. Речевая разминка.

Teacher: Tell me please: What English speaking countries do you know?

Students: I know The USA, Canada, Australia, Great Britain.

Teacher: Now look at the screen and tell me please, the symbol of what country is the red rose?
Students: The red rose is the symbol of Great Britain!

3. Постановка темы урока
T: Fine! Now think and answer: what is this lesson about? What is the theme of the lesson? 

S: The theme of the lesson is Great Britain.

T: Yes, you are right! Today we are going to take a trip to one of the most beautiful countries of Europe – Great Britain.

2. Основная часть урока

1. Актуализация опорных знаний.

T:  Imagine we are at the conference. Be ready to answer my questions about the United Kingdom.

T: What is the capital of the UK?
S: The capital of the UK is London.
T: What is the official name of the country?
S: The official name of the country is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
T: Where is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland situated?

S: It is situated on the British Isles.

T: What is the national flag of the UK?

S: The national flag of the UK is called the Union Jack
T: What seas and oceans is the UK washed by?
S: The UK is washed by the Atlantic Ocean, the North Sea and the Irish Sea. The English channel separates Great Britain from the continent.

T: What is the climate of Great Britain like?

S: The climate of GB is mild. It is often foggy and rainy.
T: What are the capitals of Scotland, Wales, England and Northern Ireland?
S: The capitals of these parts are Edinburgh, Cardiff, London and Belfast.

T: Who is the Head of State in Britain?

S: The queen is the head of the state.

T: What do you know about London’s attractions?

S: We know such remarkable places as…

T: Now let’s watch the video about Great Britain! After watching this video, you should define are the statements true or false. Please look through the statements before we start! (видеофрагмент Window on Britain)

Statements:

3. The Giant's Causeway is in Northern Ireland.

4. Buckingham Palace is a very popular place for tourists.

6. 50% of people in Wales speak Welsh.

7. Britain has over 800 islands.

4. Физ. минутка

Now we'll play the game «Read the word correctly”. I suggest you a list of words. You should read them word by word in chain. If you are mistaken, you must sit down and your turn comes to your neighbor. He pronounces the same word. If he is right, the turn will come to his neighbor. The winner is a student who pronounces all the words without mistakes. To play this game you have to stand up! (Northern Ireland, Europe, islands, Buckingham Palace, a temple, a cathedral, a banknote, a tunnel, a calendar, a birthplace, Edinburgh, London, Belfast, tourists)

4.Чтение (In the tour agency)

T.: The sentences are from the dialogue between two people. Read the dialogue and answer the questions:

1. Where do you think the dialogue takes place?

2. What is it about?

3. Explain the meaning of the underlined words.

Agent: Good morning. Dreams Travel.

Billy: Oh, hello. Do you sell airline tickets to Great Britain?

Agent: Yes.

Billy: Right. I’d like four tickets from Moscow to London.

Agent: And when do you want to go?

Billy: I’d like to go on Friday the fifth of next month.

Agent: Return or one-way?

Billy: I’d like return tickets, please. We want to come back one month later.

Agent: Ok. I’ll just check on the computer. Ok, do you want economy or business class?

Billy: Oh, business class is very expensive. I prefer economy. How much is that?

Agent: Let me see. It’s 700 pounds for one person.

Billy: What time does the flight leave London?

Agent: At ten thirty in the morning.

Billy: Is it a direct flight?

Agent: No, there’s a short stop in Berlin.

Billy: Fine. I’d like four tickets then, please.

5. Говорение (работа с карточками):
Teacher: Listen to me:
RUSSIA – is the country,
MOSCOW –  is the capital of Russia,
RUSSIAN – is the state language
THE RUSSIANS – are all inhabitants.
Please, who can tell me what is ENGLAND, LONDON, ENGLISH, THE  ENGLISNMEN.
Student: ENGLAND – is the country,
LONDON – is the capital of England, 
ENGLISH – is the  state language,
THE ENGLISNMEN –  are all inhabitants.
Teacher: There are some another countries where their inhabitants speak 
English. They are Canada, The USA, Australia, India. Now you get the 
cards. Complete the same sentences from them.

6. Активизация диалогической речи. Составление диалогов с использованием речевых клише.

T: Make up small dialogues, using the questions from Ex.3 p.151

3. Заключительный этап урока

T: Thank you for such an interesting and exciting lesson. It was really great. I am very glad that you are interested in English.

Let’s do the usual task, answer these questions:

  • Today we spoke about …
  • It was interesting to know ...
  • It was difficult …
  • Now I know…

T: Your home task will be to choose one of the British cities and write about it using the plan from the exercise number 13 on the page 157. So the lesson is over. Good bye!
