-Good morning, students (colleagues). I’m very glad to see you. Take your seats, please.

Today I will speak in English cause we have an English lesson. But if you don’t speak English, don’t worry. I will translate all my words into Russian.

-So, who can tell me what date is today? You can answer in Russian.

-What event or name is this date connected with?

-Right. And What will we celebrate on next Sunday? The 16th of April?

-Ok. What do we celebrate on the 9th of May?

-Good for you. What do we celebrate on the 1st of January?

-Perfect. So, who can tell me which topic will we learn today?

-That’s right. Today we will talk about celebrations in our country and in English-speaking countries. We will learn many new words and find out new information about traditions.

3. Изучение нового материала

-Let’s start working with new words. Look at the screen. Guess the meaning… repeat after me all together…

(festival\celebration, festive activities, lay flowers to the monuments, set off fireworks, dress up, have street parades, exchange gifts, cook special food, have a family dinner, decorate the house, fatherland, Be proud of)

- Well, do you like riddles? Lets play. So, try to guess what Festival I mean, according to my description.

-We decorate the house and decorate a fur tree. We prepare gifts for each other and put them under the fur tree. We cook special food. We don’t sleep at night. Whats that? (New Year)

-We dress up scary costumes,cut out the pumpkins and decorate the house with skeletons. Whats that? (Halloween)

-We present flowers and sweets to women and girls. Whats that? (Women’s Day)

-We present gifts to our men and boys. (The  Defender of Fatherland Day)

-We remember such people as Yury Gagarin, Sergey Korolev, Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, Valentina Tereshkova, Alexey Leonov. We are proud of them. What is that date? (Space Exploration Day)

-We colour and decorate eggs, bake special cakes(kulichi). Whats that? (Easter)

So, we know that some of celebrations are international. For example: New Year, Christmas, Women’s Day. Some of Them are native, but lots of people celebrate them all over the world- such as Valentine’s day, Halloween, Harvest Day. But for us, for Russians, there is one very special day – Victory Day.

    Let’s imagine that we need to tell about this Day to a foreigner. Look at the screen. There you can see the main attributes of this celebration. (на экране основные атрибуты Дня Победы-вечный огонь, красные гвоздики, Георгиевская лента, парад, фейерверк, бессмертный полк, минута молчания)

  Lets read a text about the Victory Day.

 Look through the text and find the signs/attributes of Victory Day celebrations. Count them. (7-8)

Answer my questions, please. Use the text.

-When do we celebrate Victory Day? (9th of May)

-What countries took part in the Great Patriotic War? (Russia, Ukraine, Belarus: the USA, England, France)

-What attributes do we use to celebrate Victory Day?

-Why do we celebrate Victory Day?   (to honour the memory of the war heroes)

-So now, I would like you to honour the memory of fallen heroes by the moment of silence. Stand up,please
