THE AIM OF EUROVISION IN1956 Officially , the aim of the competition in 1956 was as follows: the Eurovision song contest is an annual festival that broadcasts throughout Europe and is created "to help finding talented and original songs through competition between authors and singers and by comparing their creativity at the international level ". The first contest The Eurovision competition was first held in Switzerland on 24 may 1956. Seven countries participated and the competition was won by the host country, which was represented by Liz Assia with the song "Refrain ". The competition lasts for 1 hour and 40 minutes and was mainly a radio program. To performing was allowed only solo artists, and the song was supposed to last no more than three and a half minutes. Every year more than 100 million viewers around the world watch this competition . Since 2000, the competition is constantly broadcast on the Internet, the Internet audience is constantly growing. Eurovision in Russia In 2008 R ussian singer Dima Bilan won Eurovision in Serbia. That’s why in 2009 Eurovision was held in Russia from 12 to 16 may at the Olympic stadium in Moscow. 42 countries took part in the competition . Interesting facts about Eurovision. 1)Since 1990, the minimum age of participants has been 16. Before the adoption of this rule in 1986 when the contest was won by 13-year-old Belgian Sandra Kim. 2) Participants aren’t always limited to Europe. Working on the project , we realized that now Eurovision is much more popular than it was in its beginning and is one of the most famous contents in the world, but it still continues to fulfill the same goals . With the help of Television and Internet Eurovision gets more attention every year and more countries want to take part in this contest.
