There are many holidays in Russia. Some of them are state. They are New Year, Christmas ,Women’s Day, Victory Day and others. But there are a lot of holidays during the year which are traditional and national.

Ivanovo is one of the Russian cities and it has got the same holidays without any differences. Of course, it has got its own festivals and carnivals, but not holidays. No doubt, out town has got its own day. It is celebrated at the end of May.

The city day is a very popular holiday among the residents . They are looking forward it and take an active part in celebration . From early morning up to night there are many interesting and exciting activities for any person of different age. For example, exhibitions of town’s craftsmen where you can buy anything you like, competitions and shows in the parks and squares. And of course, one of the marvelous shows is the race of brides and the carnival along the main city streets .

During the day residents have got a lot of joy and positive emotions. They can walk, dance, sing and enjoy every activity. There is much music everywhere. Culmination of the holiday is a great music show with disco in the central square (Pushkin square) with a lot of splendid fireworks at the end of show and city day.

People in Ivanovo like other Russians are fond of such holidays as Maslenitsa (Shrove week) and Easter. They have funny competitions and actions, they take an active part in them. Especially, residents prefer one of the greatest religion’s holidays Easter. It’s the holiday of resurrection of Christ and beginning of spring.

Everyone prepares for this day. It’s a very important day for any person because we remember of Christ’s death for our salvation and life. We colour the eggs, bake Pascha and make Kulich. And of course, we sanctify them in church and take part in religious procession.
