Flora of Primorye Flora is very rich. It includes 250 species of trees and shrubs . About 200 species are rare. A lot of plants are medicinal. There are 77 species of herbs and other plants which Ministry of Public Health allowed to use in medicine.

Petrov’s Island is a small island in the Sea of Japan. Its area is about forty acres. But it is famous for its yew grove. Approximately t he trees were planted in the IX or X century. It is unknown who planted these trees, but there is no doubt that it was a sacred grove. It is interesting to know that the unique trees grow nowhere in the world.

Marine life The Sea of Japan is also unique. In the sea one can see the residents of the North (sea lions, seals, salmon) and the South (flying fish, sea cucumbers, sea urchins). And in 2011 people saw a flock of white sharks. There were several attacks on people. And there are real dragons – aganomal and the scorpion - fish. Scorpion - fish

Some facts about animals The red wolf combines features of a wolf, a fox and a jackal. The tiger was a common animal in Primorye. Now it is endangered. It has become the symbol of our region and is placed on its coat – of – arms.

Some interesting facts about birds There are 350 species of birds in Primorye. An albatross has the largest wingspan: it reaches three and a half meters. Gulls can drink salt water: their tonsils filter salt.
