Personality Adjectives

ambitious - determined to be successful, rich, powerful                        (determined)

bossy - always telling other people what to do, in a way that is annoying

brave        - dealing with danger, pain, or difficult situations with courage and confidence                        (courageous)

busy - if you are busy, you are working hard and have a lot of things to do

calm- relaxed and quiet, not angry, nervous, or upset

careless – 1. not paying enough attention to what you are doing, so that you make mistakes, damage things        (forgetful)        opp. (organized)

2. not caring or worrying about the possible bad or dangerous results of your actions                        ( reckless)

cautious - careful to avoid danger or risks

changeable - often changing quickly from being in a good temper to being in a bad temper                        (moody)

charming - very pleasing or attractive

clever         - able to learn and understand things quickly

sensible - reasonable, practical, and showing good judgement

cowardly - someone who is not at all brave                        

sneaky - doing things in a secret and often dishonest or unfair way

cruel - making someone suffer or feel unhappy

curious - wanting to know about something

dependable - able to be trusted to do what you need or expect                (reliable)

dreamy - someone who is dreamy has a good imagination but is not very practical

energetic - having or needing a lot of energy or determination

friendly - behaving towards someone in a way that shows you like them and are ready to talk to them or help them                        opp. (unfriendly)

funny - making you laugh

fussy – 1. very concerned about small, usually unimportant details, and difficult to please

        2. with small, exact, and careful actions, sometimes showing nervousness

generous – 1. someone who is generous is willing to give money, spend time etc, in order to help people or give them pleasure

                2. sympathetic in the way you deal with people, and tending to see the good qualities in someone or something

gloomy - sad because you think the situation will not improve

gullible - too ready to believe what other people tell you, so that you are easily tricked                        (trusting)

independent - confident and able to do things by yourself in your own way, without needing help or advice from other people

obedient - always doing what you are told to do, or what the law, a rule etc says you must do

patient - able to wait calmly for a long time or to accept difficulties, people’s annoying behaviour etc without becoming angry

polite - behaving or speaking in a way that is correct for the social situation you are in, and showing that you are careful to consider other people’s needs and feelings                                opp. (rude)

quarrelsome - someone who is quarrelsome quarrels a lot with people

quick-tempered - having a tendency to become angry easily                (hot-tempered)

respectful - polite and treating someone with respect

responsible - sensible and able to make good judgments, so that you can be trusted

restless - unwilling to keep still or stay where you are, especially because you are nervous or bored

self-centered - caring only about yourself and not about other people – used to show disapproval                        (selfish)                opp. (unselfish)

self-confident - sure that you have the ability to do something well or deal with situations successfully

sensitive - able to understand other people’s feelings and problems                

sentimental - someone who is sentimental is easily affected by emotions such as love, sympathy, sadness etc, often in a way that seems silly to other people

serious - if someone is serious about something they say or plan to do, they really mean it and are not joking or pretending

stubborn - determined not to change your mind, even when people think you are being unreasonable

talkative - someone who is talkative talks a lot                        

thoughtful - always thinking of the things you can do to make people happy or comfortable

understanding - sympathetic and kind about other people’s problems

witty - using words in a clever and amusing way
