Celebrations United States Americans play small tricks on friends and strangers alike on the first of April. One common trick is pointing down to a friend's shoe and saying, "Your shoelace is untied." England - Tricks can be played only in the morning. If a trick is played on you, you are a "noodle". Scotland - April Fools' Day is actually celebrated for two days and the custom is known as "hunting the gowk " (the cuckoo), and April fools are "April gowks ". The second day is devoted to pranks involving the posterior region of the body. It is called Taily Day. The origin of the "kick me" sign can be traced to this observance.

April Fools' Day has spread around the world France . French children fool their friends by taping a paper fish to their backs. When the young victim discovers this trick, the prankster yells " Poisson d'Avril !"

Mexico T he counterpart of April Fools' Day is actually observed on December 28. Originally, the day was a sad remembrance of the slaughter of the innocent children by King Herod. It eventually evolved into a lighter commemoration involving pranks and trickery. Portugal April Fools' is celebrated on the Sunday and Monday before Lent. The traditional trick there is to throw flour at your friends.

Australian April Fool's Day Australia's This Day Tonight ran a segment about the "Dial-O-Fish," a new electronic fishing rod that could be set to catch any desired species. A "fishing expert" demonstrated how to use the device. First he dialed up garfish, and soon had caught half a dozen. Next he dialed up tommy ruff. Hundreds of viewers reportedly called in wanting to know where to buy one, and a Japanese manufacturer declared it was ready to go into production immediately.

Australian April Fool's Day Ikea Australia introduced the HUNDSTOL Highchair for Dogs, as part of an effort "to accommodate the growing demand for furniture that reflects today's modern family." The chair was designed with the dog's comfort in mind, with a hole in the back of the chair for the tail, and paw grips on the seat for stability. Two inset bowls could be easily removed for washing.

Russian April Fool's Day Brutistan (1994) The Moscow Tribune went out onto the streets of Moscow to ask people what they thought about the ethnic cleansing in Brutistan. They received a variety of concerned replies. The joke was that Brutistan does not exist.

Pinanas (2009) British supermarket chain Waitrose placed ads in newspapers announcing the availability of a new fruit, the pinana (a combination of pineapple and banana). The text of the ad read : “ Pinanas . Fresh in today and exclusive to Waitrose. If you find that all Waitrose pinanas have sold out, don't worry, there's 50% off our essential Waitrose strawberries .”

Gmail Motion (2011) Google designed a new feature that allows people to eliminate the use of keyboards and mice and instead write emails using only gestures, which Gmail would track using your computer webcam and a "spatial tracking algorithm." Google did note that safety precautions should be observed before using Gmail Motion. Users were advised to clear 4 feet of space around them and to take breaks every 30-40 minutes.
