Today we are going to revise adjectives, to learn some new grammar material, to work in pairs and groups, to learn to describe people. But now let’s do some tongue-twisters. - Let’s work at a sound “B”: A box of biscuits, a box of mixed biscuits, and a biscuit mixer. Big black bugs bleed blue blood. Betty Better bought some butter (Ss repeat it after the T, then one by one)
- Now open your textbooks p. 40 - Do you know this girl? (T shows Linda’s portrait p.40) Of course, this is Linda Silvester. And what do you know about her? Let’s remember this exercise and the following dialogue. We read them last time. Now tell us what you know about Linda. (Ss tell what they know about Linda, they use: ... to be a student at.., to speak French, to play the guitar, to have got a lot of friends).
-Are they a close family? Do they get on well? Find the answers in the text and read. | To greet pupils, work at a good pronunciation To activate Ss’ prior knowledge To establish a link with the previous lesson of the unit To brainstorm ideas | Whole class Whole class
2. Phonetic skills | - We know what the members of Linda’s family are. - Now let’s remember the adjectives that help us to describe people. Listen and then repeat after the speaker (ex. 7 p. 43). There are 4 cards: in- im- non un- I am going to attach them to the words. (T sticks the cards to the written on the blackboard adjectives). Non-athletic unfriendly impolite infamous -Do you see any changes? What is the difference between athletic and non-athletic? Guess the meaning of non-, im-, in-, un- . (Ss translate the words which have the opposite meaning). -Find out the meaning of these words. Let’s listen to the tape (ex. 8 p. 44). And now we are going to do ex.9, p.44 and use the dictionary if necessary. You can use these words to describe someone’s character. | To present and practice the suffixes with negative meaning | Whole class Individual
5. Speaking skills | - And now I invite you to a magic shop. Here you can choose any traits of character you like. You are welcome in the groups of four. -Personal characteristics are written on the cards, take any three of them. There are 16 cards. You may change the card if you don’t like the trait. And you may exchange cards. So, the first group of four pupils – you are welcome!
