Пояснительная записка
Методическая разработка урока по теме «Добро пожаловать в Лондон (Welcome to London)» предназначена для студентов 1 курса средне-профессиональных учебных заведений, изучающих дисциплину Иностранный язык и обучающихся на специальностях 23.02.03 Техническое обслуживание и ремонт автомобильного транспорта, 23.02.01 Организация перевозок и управление на транспорте (по видам), 43.02.06 Сервис на транспорте и 38.02.01 Экономика и бухгалтерский учет (по отраслям).
В данной методической разработке представлены серии упражнений и методических приемов для обучения аспектам языка и иноязычной речевой деятельности, материал для тестирования владения иностранным языком, речевые и языковые игры, презентация о достопримечательностях Лондоне с подробным описанием на английском языке и кроссворд.
Методическая разработка поможет учащимся закрепить и совершенствовать навыки практического владения языком по теме «Добро пожаловать в Лондон».
Цели урока:

- расширение лингвистического кругозора студентов, приобретение знаний о Лондоне;
- активизация лексических единиц по теме "Добро пожаловать в Лондон";
- формирование языковых навыков: навыков чтения, говорения, аудирования, письма;

- составление сообщений по теме;

Ход урока
1. Организационный момент
Т.: -Stand up please. Good morning, my dear friends! Sit down please. I am very glad to see you. I hope that you are fine today. I am sure that you'll like our lesson. - Listen attentively my questions and answer them. (Слайд 1) What day is it today? What date is it today? Are all students present at the lesson? (Who is absent? Who is ill?)
- Our topic today is "Welcome to London". Who can answer what London is it? Of course it is the capital of Great Britain. Today I suggest you to travel around London. As you know London is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It has a lot of interesting historical and modern places to visit. We are going to read, to listen to the text, to do some exercises, to speak and to revise all we know about London.
But before we start our travelling let's repeat the words that will be necessary for us.

Stewardess: Dear passengers! (Cлайд 5) You are welcome on the board of our plane. As you know the London is the capital of Great Britain. It is a very old city. It is two thousand years old. (Cлайд 6) London is situated upon both banks of the Thames. The population of London is about 9 million people. (Cлайд 7) London has three parts: the City of London, the East End and the West End. When you travel about the city you can see narrow streets and pavements, many offices, firms and banks. The City of London is the commercial and financial centre of the United Kingdom. The West End is the centre of London. There are many places of interest there. The East End of London is the district for the working people. There are many factories, workshops, docks there.
Oh! And now be careful. We are landing at Heathrow Airport. (Cлайд 8)
T.: What do you know about Heathrow Airport?
St. London has three airports and Heathrow is the main airport of London. It is in 24 km to the West from city center. It is opened in 1946. Together with the services it shows the whole city. The banks and buffets are opened all day and night, there are movement of cars, the fire-fighting crew, own newspaper and local church never stops. Heathrow serves two thirds of the passengers arriving to Great Britain. The airport has four terminals. The information tourist service of the airport works from 7.00 a.m. till 10 p.m. The restaurant is at the terminal. At the airport there are hotels and parking.

T. Well students. Imagine you are in London now. I think we’ll start with a visit to the London Tourist Information Office. (Cлайд 9) Look at the screen, this is the London Tourist Information Office. We must choice our tour over London. This office will help us.
Let’s make a dialogue between the representatives of this firm and Russian tourists. Your task is to combine the dialogue in a right way. Do you understand me?

TRAFALGAR SQUARE is a very famous square in London. In the middle of the square there is a very famous statue “Nelson’s Column” which is over 170 feet high. The statue on the top is in memory of Lord Nelson who won the most famous sea battle at Trafalgar. This column is cleaned once every seven years. Trafalgar Square has became famous as a rallying point for all kinds of demonstrations, marches and political meetings.

NATIONAL GALLERY. The whole of the north side of Trafalgar Square is situated the National Gallery. It houses one of the finest art collections in the world. It includes painting from British, Italian, Spanish, French, Dutch, Flemish and other famous schools. It has a priceless collection of paintings by the famous artists Van Gogh, Reuben’s, Constable and any other painter you wish to name.

THE TOWER OF LONDON is a very old building- nine hundred years old! In the early days of England the English kings lived in the Tower. It has a long history. In the past it was a fortress, a prison, a castle and a zoo. It was built to protect the city from the enemies. There are a lot of ravens at this place. There is a legend that without them the Tower will fall. Nowadays this building is a very popular museum. Now the Tower of London is a museum and many tourists from other countries come to see it.
T.: - Tanya will speak about Tower Bridge (Cлайд 16)
TOWER BRIDGE was opened in 1894. It takes his name from the Tower of London. It is the oldest and famous bridge across the Thames. It is over a hundred years old. Originally it was made of wood by the Romans, but it was often burnt down. Later it was made of stone. Finally it was rebuilt and made of concrete.
T.: - Beidulla will speak about St. Paul's Cathedral (Cлайд 17)
ST. PAUL’S CATHEDRAL. The city’s greatest monument, St Paul’s Cathedral was built by Christopher Wren between 1675 and 1710. The Cathedral is second in size only to St. Peter’s in Rome. Between the two west towers rises the famous dome. It is 365 feet high. Unfortunately Christopher Wren died before the completion. He is buried there.
T.: - Alena will speak about Buckingham Palace (Cлайд 18)
BUCKINGHAM PALACE is the official residents of the Queen and her family. It isn’t open to the public. It has 600 hundred rooms, a swimming pool, a cinema, a ballroom, a nuclear cellar and a garden, which is like a private park. In summer the Queen gives three garden parties for about 9000 guests. Palace ceremony of the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace is a great tourist’s attraction. It takes place daily in the forecourt at 11 a.m. and lasts half an hour.

THE HOUSES OF PARLIAMENT. The famous clock Big Ben stands near the Houses of Parliament. The country’s leaders speak in the Houses of parliament. The man and women there are the voice of the British people. The houses of parliament stand beside the river Thames. You can go on a boat from Westminster and see London from the river. You can also see Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament from Westminster Bridge.

THE THAMES is not long River. It is three hundred and thirty kilometers long and it flows into the sea. The English people call it “the Father of London”. London began on the Thames. When we go in a ship up the Thames we pass under London Bridge, The Tower Bridge and others.

BIG BEN. Tourists in London always want to visit Westminster and see Big Ben. They want to see the clock in it its tower and to hear the bells. Big Ben is really a bell. You hear it every hour. It is a big bell. It weighs 13 720 kilograms. It has a deep tone and you can hear it on the radio: “This is the BBC. The time is six o’clock.” And then you hear the deep boom of Big Ben of six time. The clock has four faces and five big bells. The biggest bell is known as Big Ben. The bell is named after Sir Benjamin Hall; the first commissioner of works when the Houses of Parliament were rebuilt (in 1850).He was a tall men, whose nickname was Big Ben. So people know the clock as Big Ben.
