The lubricating system (other name - lubricant system) is intended for drop of friction between mating members of the engine. Except performance of the main function the lubricating system provides cooling of details of the engine, removal of products of a deposit and wear, protection of details of the engine against corrosion. The lubricating system of the engine includes an engine crankcase oil pan, the oil pump, the oil filter, an oil cooler which are connected among themselves by highways and ports. The crankcase oil pan of the engine is intended for oil storage. Oil level in the pan is controlled by means of a probe, and also by means of the sensor of level and temperature of oil. The oil pump is intended for pumping of oil in system. The oil pump can be put in action from a bent shaft of the engine, a cam shaft or an additional power shaft. The greatest application on engines was found by oil pumps of gear type. The oil filter serves for purification of oil of products of wear and a deposit. Purification of oil happens to the help of a filter cartridge which is replaced together with oil replacement. For cooling of engine oil the oil cooler is used. Cooling of oil in a radiator is carried out by a liquid stream from the cooling system.

Lubricant of the engine is carried out cyclically. During the operation of the engine the oil pump pumps oil in system. Under pressure oil moves in the oil filter where it is cleared of mechanical impurity. Then on ports oil arrives to radical and to rod journals (bearings) of a bent shaft, bearing parts of a cam shaft, the top bearing part of a connecting rod for lubricant of a piston finger. On a work face of the cylinder oil moves through bores in the lower bearing part of a connecting rod or by means of special spray jets. Other parts of the engine are greased with spraying. Oil which escapes through spacings in joints, is sprayed by moving parts of and gas-distribution gears. Thus oil fog which settles on other details of the engine is formed and greases them. Under the influence of gravity oil flows down in the pan and the cycle of lubricant is repeated.
