I visited the play «Thunderstorm» by A. N. Ostrovsky on April 13, 2007. This play made a deep impression on me.

In my opinion, the essence of the play is that two sides clashed here: light and dark. The action of this play were in the city of Kalinov. It is a picturesque place and the people who life here should be kind, friendly, but they are completely stuck in tyranny and cruelty. Katerina is a «ray of light in the dark kindom». She is a victim of the kingdom of tyrants and she cannot resist him its. Katerina married by Tikhon Kabanov not she didn’t love, him. In the nineteenth century, he people believed that marriage is a worthy life, and love is something sinful. Katerina is always blamed. Kabaniha is annoyed by Katya, and she constantly finds fault with her. But Katya struggled with this dark kingdom, she did not want to become part of it. She is alien to life and marriage for the benefit. She wants to give love and be loved. And  suddenly she meets a good man and falls in love. She secretly goes on gates to Boris. The author shows us a girl as the personification of human virtues. She doesn’t wand anymore. Katerina  finds the strength in herself. She breaks the vicious candle, and voluntarily leaves this world.

There is such a phenomenon as a thunderstorm throughout the entire work. Thunderstorm is the personification of something terrible. I noticed that a thunderstorm rages not only in the environment, but also in the soul of every characters of this play. Relations between people are based on envy and anger.

A suicide was the only way for Katerina. She did not want to put up with reality, and her suicide was a kind of call to action.

Unfortunately, this play is relevant to this day. In the work, the communication between the head of the family with his wife resembled a trainer, because her husband can hit his wife. In the whole play, a woman plays the role of a maid. I consider that wedding should be built on understanding, love and respect for each other.

Love is the, most important thing in life. I think it is very important when there is a loved one nearby, who cares about you. If Catherine had a life like  this, then she would be the happiest and she would be able to avoid suicide.

I am very glad that I visited   the play «Thunderstorm». It was very informative and useful for me. This play teaches us to be kind, understanding and compassionate.
