ESSAY

There is no doubt, that the English language is used for all kinds of international communication. Are you among those who can’t do without English?
To start with,  I should say that I learn English because I like this language. It is really one of my favorite subjects at school. I learn English for different reasons. First of all, it broadens my mind and way of thinking. I need English in order to be able to communicate with my pen-friends from other countries over the Internet, understand films and songs. In addition to this,  English is a global language nowadays. The problems of war and peace, ecology and democracy cannot be solved if people do not speak the same language.
Opponents of this view say that learning languages can lead to the reduction of native languages and destroy cultural heritage. They  add that with a loss of a language comes a loss of culture.
I might agree with it but only to some extend because even my level of knowledge of English makes me a well-educated person,  after all.  If we see the world only from the perspective of our own culture it may even lead to misunderstanding  and wars. This aspect is of great importance for many people.
Taking everything into account,  I strongly believe that we are happy to have a chance to study several languages in our gymnasia, but the  English  language seems more  attractive for me, as it allows  to make the most of my abilities.
I`m  sure,  everyone should make a choice according to their preference.
