Modern education in North Korea Овчинников Богдан 10 А класс
Слайд 3
At the time of the founding of the DPRK in 1948, about 2/3 of school-age children were not receiving any education, and 2.3 million adults were completely illiterate. This is despite the fact that the entire population of the country, including children, at that time was about 9.39 million people. In 1950, compulsory primary education was introduced, but plans were thwarted by the outbreak of the Korean war (1950-1953). Nevertheless, by 1958, the country managed to establish compulsory seven-year education. By 1967, nine years of education had become compulsory, and in 1975, eleven years.

In General, the school system in the DPRK was built in the image and likeness of the Soviet and still has not changed much
Слайд 5
Now compulsory education includes one preparatory year, four years of primary school (in the DPRK it is called "people's") and six years of secondary school. Then some of the smartest or wealthiest North Koreans go to College, most go to work.

What and how to learn in North Korean schools The school curriculum in the DPRK includes academic subjects to which students all over the world are accustomed — mathematics, native language, foreign language (English or Russian), geography, literature, history. However, in addition to this, North Korean schoolchildren take political courses such as "Communist morality", "Communist party Politics" or "the Life of the great Kim Il Sung". But these subjects make up no more than 6% of the entire school curriculum.North Korea studies both Korean and Western literature: Tolstoy, Hugo, Jane Austen and Shakespeare. However, some "corrupting the mind" scenes from the books are cut out in advance, and some works reach the North Koreans only in fragments.World history is also taught. For example, students in North Korea know about the First and Second world wars, the founding of the United States and the Holocaust.

In the DPRK, "public education"is of great importance outside the school and classroom. This education includes not only extracurricular activities, but also family life and a range of interpersonal relationships within society. There is a great susceptibility to the influence of the social environment on the maturation of children and its role in the development of their character. The ideal of socialist education is to support a carefully controlled environment in which children are shielded from bad and unwanted influences. According to North Korean officials in 1990: "School education is not enough to make the younger generation into a person of knowledge, dignity and sport. After school, our children have a lot of free time. This is very important for the effective organization of their post-secondary education.»

Almost no one uses the Internet The Internet (as we know it), in principle, exists in North Korea, but access to it is very limited and allowed only to foreigners and the elite. Most of the residents can use only domestic Internet country called Qianmen .

It is an elite University, which in the early 1990s enrolled 16,000 students (classes are full and part-time).
