Never Forget

The world is changing with every passing year. But a lot of   things have stayed the same for centuries.  One of such things are our Motherland, famous countrymen and local national traditions and holidays.

The most important day for inhabitants of my village is the Day of the Hero, devoted to Twice the Hero of the Soviet Union Rechkalov Grigory. He is known as the ace - pilot of the Great Patriotic War   of 1941-1945. The Hero’s Day is celebrated on February 20th, the date of his birthday. For our countrymen it is a recent celebration but very remarkable one because Grigory Rechkalov is our pride and fame. Why do we respect his deeds and keep him in our memory?

During the War he shot 61 enemy planes. The war had nothing to offer him but blood, sweat, death.   That brave pilot spent endless months of struggle.  What was his purpose?  We can answer in one word: it is victory, victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory, however long and hard the road might be!

Hero’s Day is widely celebrated by various village public organizations, schoolchildren from   Zaikovo Schools including cadets’ classes. Great number of guests usually come to celebrate this holiday: military pilots, officers, representatives of Duma of Sverdlovsk region. We organize meetings, arrange exhibitions and festive performances in the Park of Heroes and watch concerts of the village choir.

The holiday is aimed to say a huge “thank you” to all the famous countrymen – the Heroes of the Soviet Union, who showed heroism in war battles.

I strongly believe, that the holiday spreads cheer and joy to all the villagers of Zaikovo. We can say about our outstanding countryman:

“Step follows Step,

Hope follows Courage,

Set your Face towards Danger,

Set your Heart to Victory.”

The price of victory is high but so are the rewards!
