New Year's New Year is a public holiday and is celebrated on January 1, although Americans begin to celebrate it on December 31. On this day, sometimes masquerade balls are arranged, where people dress up in costumes with masks. Masks are removed at midnight . Many people watch New Year's eve celebrations on TV at Times Square in downtown new York on this day. In this square, one minute before midnight, a lighted balloon slowly descends from the top of one of the buildings. At the moment of touching the ground, the inscription lights up: "New Year".In many cities, colorful fireworks are held on the night of December 31 to January 1.
