Ancient Greece Ancient Rome . Roman men wore a cloak over their tunic, which was draped over the shoulder and carefully wrapped around the body Important Romans dressed in a long robe called a toga. Ancient Greek men and women typically wore two pieces of clothing draped about the body: an undergarment (chiton or peplos )

MIDDLE AGES There appeared Anglo-Saxon and Byzantine motives. Then the epoch of Gothic style had come.

THE EPOCH of BAROQUE EARLY BAROQUE LATE BAROQUE Breeches became close-fitting and either tied, buttoned, or buckled at the knee. Long coats with braid-trimmed buttonholes and large, folded-over sleeves were worn. Men generally wore different variations of coats, waistcoats, and breeches. The waistcoat was the most decorative piece, usually lavishly embroidered or displaying patterned fabrics.

XVIII-XIX centuries RUSS - RUSSIA . Opashen , a peculiar type of kaftan made only of expensive fabrics was one of the holiday and ceremonial dresses of the nobility. Opashen was very broad, up to 3 meters, at the hem, and had extremely long sleeves hanging down to the ground.

The 10s – 20s “Jazz age” During the 1920s, short suits were always worn except on formal occasions in the daytime, when a morning coat would be worn. Older, more conservative men continued to wear a frock coat, or "Prince Albert coat" as it was known.

The 30s – 40s Work and play is about all men did. Superman became the ideal men’s shape. Clothing reflected this new silhouette with extra broad shoulders, thin waists, and tapered wide legs. Everything was big, tall and surprisingly comfortable as the looseness of clothing made it easier than ever to work and play.

The 5 0 s Men’s 1950s Clothing History: Casual Fashion M en weren't wearing jackets or suits they were wearing sweaters or vests. Some businesses would allow the man to wear a sweater with a tie, sort of a 1950s “casual Friday” thing. Cardigan sweaters also made for a nice casual look.

The 60 s The Beat Movement Popular 1960s styles for men were suede lace up oxfords, monk strap shoes, penny loafers, Chelsea boots (Beatles shoes), western boots, chukka boots, retro sneakers, and leather sandals. Most men’s dress shoes and boots had a high shine to go with the plastic age. Pointy toe or square snub toe shoes made classic oxford shoes look new.

The 7 0 s Big Collars / Leisure Suits The Leisure Suit was an often guady fashion ensemble worn by men in the 70s. The leisure suit consisted of a shirt like suit coat with matching pants. It was usually accompied by a mostly unbuttoned shirt with a huge collar.

The 80s When it came to footwear, white sneakers were the ultimate casual shoe that’s perfect for a range of looks. A time of excess and maximalism Casual fashion in the ’80s saw gents don dad jeans in full force, often with a matching denim jacket . T-shirts and loose shirts were also popular during the time while bomber jackets , leather jackets, windbreakers, and sweaters acted as the outerwear of choice.

The 9 0s Rebellious and minimalistic mood. The decade saw the birth of grunge as well as a rise in streetwear, sneaker culture and early athleisure . Overalls were huge in the ’90s, especially when worn with one strap hanging down. Leather biker jackets were the epitome of edgy style in the 1990s.
